Pro-Israel Group Blasts Sen. Paul for Blocking Funding for Israel’s Iron Dome

Senator is ‘allowing Hamas to hold a gun to Israelis’ heads’

A pro-Israel organization accused Sen. Rand Paul (Ky.) of "allowing Hamas to hold a gun to Israelis’ heads" by blocking a bipartisan bill to fund Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system.

Christians United for Israel (CUFI), one of the nation’s largest and most influential pro-Israel groups, in a letter sent to Paul's office this week and obtained by the Washington Free Beacon, is pressing the senator to reconsider his opposition to a Senate measure that would immediately release U.S. funding so that Israel can replenish its Iron Dome defense system in the wake of its July conflict with the Hamas terror group.

Paul, a longtime critic of U.S. foreign aid priorities, is reportedly set to block a $1 billion Iron Dome funding measure spearheaded by Sen. Bob Menendez (D., N.J.) that would suspend regular Senate rules to immediately approve the money request. The Senate maneuver requires consent from all 100 members, so Paul’s lone opposition to the bill means that it cannot be fast-tracked for approval. CUFI, which represents more than 181,000 Kentucky residents, in its letter accused Paul of "emboldening the most virulent anti-Israel forces in Congress."

The Iron Dome funding bill passed through the House this week by a vote of 420 to 9, with Israel’s most vocal congressional opponents—including Reps. Ilhan Omar (D., Minn.) and Rashida Tlaib (D., Mich.)—voting against the pro-Israel legislation. House Democrats on the Party’s far-left flank attempted to derail Iron Dome funding, but outrage from pro-Israel groups and mainstream lawmakers ensured its passage through the House.

Paul is the only senator standing in the way of the legislation’s quick approval. The lawmaker says he does not object to U.S. funding for the Iron Dome system, which prevents Hamas missiles from striking Israeli citizens, but that he wants the $1 billion funding to be taken from a separately proposed Afghanistan reconstruction funding bill that has become controversial in the wake of the Taliban’s takeover. Paul maintains that using these Afghanistan funds would offset the cost associated with replenishing the Iron Dome.

Doug Stafford, a spokesman for Paul’s office said the senator’s plan makes fiscal sense and ensures the Taliban will not have access to U.S. funding.

"CUFI and anyone else should be answering why the bill sponsors won’t agree to take the money for Iron Dome from the Taliban, which is what Rand is proposing," Stafford told the Free Beacon. "Apparently, they prefer to keep the money with the Taliban or borrow it from China. There is any easy path to passage of this bill. "

CUFI and other critics of Paul’s stance say that tying these two issues together will effectively stall Iron Dome funding and leave the Jewish state unprepared to weather Hamas’s next terror campaign.

Two Koreas Hold First Talks After North Korea Restores Hotlines Following Monthslong Radio Silence

North Korean officials have said that restoration work on the communication hotlines will begin on Monday, at 9:00 a.m., local time.

In an announcement relayed by state media, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un revealed on Monday that severed communication hotlines between North Korea and South Korea will again be restored.

According to a Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) release, North Korea's move comes "as part of efforts to realize the expectation and desire of the entire nation for early recovery of the present inter-Korean relations and settlement of durable peace on the Korean peninsula."

Within hours of the announcement, North Korean officials were able to confirm their first liaison call with their Southern counterparts, per a Yonhap News report. The outlet also reported that Seoul is maintaining an optimistic outlook regarding the prospect of inter-Korean talks.

The KCNA release emphasized that Seoul and its authorities should "keep in mind the meaning of reopening of the communication lines and make active efforts to solve pending issues for saving inter-Korean relations and opening its bright prospect."

Last week, the North Korean leader expressed support for activating the hotlines, which have remained offline for several months.

At the time, Kim noted that the move would allow leaders to see the "recovery of the [N]orth-[S]outh relations from the present deadlock and durable peace settling in the Korean Peninsula."

Pyongyang's vocal support was matched by South Korea's Unification Ministry, which previously called on North Korea to restore the hotlines connecting the two countries.

North Korean officials initially cut the communication line in June 2020, after the Democratic People's Republic of Korea contended that South Korea had failed to block activists from distributing airborne anti-North Korea leaflets.

The two countries were reportedly in agreement about improving communication lines when they were restored in July. Pyongyang took the hotlines offline again after just a few weeks.

90,000 Educators Beg Biden: We Need FBI Protection From "Mobs" Of Parents Irate Over Mask Mandates

How bad has the "it's for your health" vaccine and mask mandates debate gotten?

The National School Boards Association, which represents more than 90,000 school officials, "begged" President Biden on Wednesday for FBI and Secret Service agents to help protect against "mobs" of angry parents protesting the mandates, according to the Daily Mail.

The NSBA wrote a letter asking the government to stand up against "mobs of angry parents", labeling them "domestic terrorism" and "extremist hate organizations".

NSBA President Viola Garcia and Interim Executive Director and CEO Chip Slaven signed the letter, which specifically asked President Biden to use his executive power to help guard school officials by mobilizing the FBI.

The letter reads: "The National School Boards Association (NSBA) respectfully asks for federal law enforcement and other assistance to deal with the growing number of threats of violence and acts of intimidation occurring across the nation".

The letter says there have been "threats or actual acts of violence" by "angry mobs".

"As these threats and acts of violence have become more prevalent, NSBA respectfully asks that a joint collaboration among federal law enforcement agencies, state and local law enforcement, and with public school officials be undertaken to focus on these threats," it reads.
