Another Top Biden Official Resigns Amid Expulsion Of Haitian Migrants At Southern Border

A second official within the Biden administration has resigned amid controversy over the handling of Haitian migrants flooding to the southern border.

Harold Koh, the only political appointee on the State Department’s legal team and a former longtime advisor to President Barack Obama’s State Department, announced he was resigning and panned the Biden administration in a memo circulated on Oct. 2. In the memo, obtained by Politico, Koh decries the Biden team’s use of Title 42 to expel Haitian migrants from the United States as “illegal” and “inhumane.”

Title 42 is a public health provision allowing the government to prevent the introduction of new individuals in the U.S. during a public health crisis. The law was first used under the Trump administration to expel tens of thousands of migrants at the southern border, and the order has since been extended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention under the Biden administration.

Koh described the use of Title 42 as “not worthy of this Administration that I so strongly support,” Politico reported. “I believe this Administration’s current implementation of the Title 42 authority continues to violate our legal obligation not to expel or return (“refouler”) individuals who fear persecution, death, or torture, especially migrants fleeing from Haiti.”

“Lawful, more humane alternatives plainly exist,” the State Department advisor continued. “[O]ur actions and approaches regarding Afghan refugees stand in stark contrast to the continuing use of Title 42 to rebuff the pleas of thousands of Haitians and myriad others arriving at the Southern Border who are fleeing violence, persecution, or torture.”

Koh was previously a State Department legal advisor during the Obama administration from 2009-2013. Koh is leaving the Biden team to accept a job at Oxford University, and his departure has been long-planned, an administration official told Politico.

Defense contractor accused of stealing more than $1 billion from Navy

The company received revenue from the Defense Department over a 10-year span.

A U.S. Defense contractor is under investigation following allegations of stealing up to $50 million from the U.S. Navy.

According to the Washington Post, Frank Rafaraci—the contractor in this case—is accused of overcharging the Navy from 2011 to 2018. The company Rafaraci worked for was Multinational Logistics Services (MLS).

Currently, the contractor is in Malta, and the Justice Department is working on an extradition order so he can face charges back here in the U.S.

The company was responsible for servicing warships sent to the Middle East, and other parts of Asia. The company received over $1 billion in revenue from the Defense Department over a 10-year span.

In the indictment, the Justice Department alleges that one example of corruption includes MLS charging the U.S. in excess of $200,000 just for “port authority fees.” However, court documents show the port the ship was docked at only charges $12,000 in order to dock.

According to a statement obtained by The Hill from Navy spokesperson Lt. Andrew Degarmo, the federal government has been “actively coordinating with other law enforcement authorities around the globe” to apprehend the defendants.

“The Department of the Navy expects all individuals and companies with whom it conducts business to act with the highest degree of integrity and to have effective standards of conduct," Degarmo added.

Besides federal fraud, Rafaraci faces money laundering and bribery charges.

Last year Hunter Biden promised to resign from the company’s board and unwind from his investment.

Joe Biden last year also pledged that no one in his family would have foreign business dealings if he were to be elected in November 2020.

It is now October 2021 and Hunter has not divested from the Chinese government-linked firm.

German Electricity Producer Forced to Shut Down Power Plant After Running out of Coal

The global energy crisis forced one German electricity producer to shut down its power plant last week after it ran out of hard coal.

Steag GmbH, which operates six large-scale hard coal plants in Germany, was forced to close its Bergkamen A plant located in the western part of the country due to shortages, a Steag spokesperson told Bloomberg.

This is not the first time the Bergkamen A plant has been forced to halt. According to court filings, the plant was put on pause four times in September for as many as six days at a time due to external factors, according to Bloomberg. Three other German coal plants were also halted on Friday for maintenance.

“We are short of hard coal,” said spokesman Daniel Muhlenfeld. “There is a strong demand for coal per se and secondly, there is a strong demand for transport by barge. And since Bergkamen has no rail connection, there are no logistical alternatives available here.”

Steag, which employs more than 6,000 people around the world, is also facing logistical issues amid a surge in demand for river transport as Germany’s economy slowly recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite the logistical issues, the company is still optimistic that its Bergkamen A plant will be up and running again “quite soon,” and noted that Steag is not the only energy company facing such issues.

“We are dealing with a double bottleneck,” Muhlenfeld said. “This is not a specific problem for Steag but a common problem for nearly all owners of hard coal-based power plants these days.”

Surging energy places are currently playing out across the globe, with several European countries facing soaring energy bills as gas prices have risen more than 35 percent in the past month amid lower supplies of natural gas and a surge in demand as pandemic-hit economies around the world reopen.

Lackluster output from Europe’s windmills and solar farms, and maintenance work taking nuclear generators and other plans offline have also contributed.

In Europe, supply levels are 16 percent below the five-year average, a record low for this time of year, and European utilities have turned to coal to combat such shortages, even asking Russia for more supplies. As a consequence, coal is now trading at sky-high levels.

Meanwhile, China, which is almost totally reliant on coal, last week moved to secure more supplies—including electricity and oil—as the country faces electricity supply issues that have forced factories to shut down and caused supply disruptions to large global companies such as Apple and Tesla, as well as small U.S. businesses.

Facebook “whistleblower” Frances Haugen is a longtime Democrat donor, supporting campaigns for far-left extremists such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. She has also donated money to activist groups actively attempting to derail the U.S. primary process that allows ordinary members of the public to beat out establishment, career politicians, The National Pulse can reveal.

Haugen’s “whistleblowing” has been lauded by the corporate media: a sure sign that rather than being a sole actor attempting to call out corporate abuse, she is likely backed by some hefty interests. Haugen first anonymously leaked internal documents before revealing her identity and calling for mass censorship on the Facebook, but only of political ideas she opposes.

The National Pulse has thus far identified 36 donations from Haugen during her time as an employee of Facebook, Pinterest, and Gigster. All of the donations, which total nearly $2,000 since December 2016, have gone to Democrats including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

On January 13th, 2020, Haugen sent money to Ocasio-Cortez’s congressional campaign and a further contribution to her “Courage to Change” Political Action Committee (PAC).

“All endorsees will embody the ideals of racial, social, economic, and environmental justice,” promises the PAC.

Haugen’s most recent donation was August 4th, sending $100 to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC).

In-keeping with her wishes to purge political views other than hers from social media, Haugen has also donated to a left-wing “resistance” group which lists as one of its top priorities the dismantling of the U.S. primary process for elections.

Over 210 arrested during Ohio’s largest human trafficking sting

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - More than 210 people were recently arrested in Ohio during a statewide human trafficking sting.

Officials said 161 individuals were arrested for attempting to buy sex, while 50 were taken into custody for trying to sell services.

Arrests in Northeast Ohio were made between Sept 24 and Oct. 1, including in Portage, Lorain, and Summit counties, according to Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost.

The attorney general detailed results of the “Ohio Knows” operation during remarks on Monday morning.

“We will not rest until no one in Ohio buys or sells human beings,” Yost said.

Suspects taken into custody during the operation include a firefighter, a city council member, a teacher, and a man who arrived with a 2-year-old child in his vehicle.

Three of the men who were arrested thought they arranged to have sex with minors, Yost said.

“It’s in every county. It’s in every town. This is happening all over Ohio,” Yost described. “Poor neighborhoods, rich neighborhoods, educated, uneducated, Black, white, it doesn’t matter. It happens everywhere.”

In Lorain County, Elyria police said 14 male suspects were arrested for solicitation during the sting.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said three people were rescued and more than a dozen were arrested following a recent investigation into child pornography crimes. Two men from Winter Haven were also arrested for sexually abusing three children among other charges.

According to the sheriff’s office, the suspects are all male and range in age from 15 to 68 years old. The teens and men are facing 2,770 felony charges altogether.

Five young victims were found who were depicted in the pornography, according to Sheriff Grady Judd.

“We search for child victims in every one of these cases and it’s very rare to find one,” he said.

Among those arrested was 32-year-old Harrison Egbert of Winter Haven. After getting a tip about activity at Egbert’s home, detectives executed a search warrant on the residence and found 1,000 videos and images of children as young as 2 being sexually battered. Egbert confessed to viewing child porn online and sexually abusing three girls. Authorities said he videoed the abuse with his friend, David Lavin’s help.

“We found videos of their sexual conduct. Now keep in mind, when they created this child porn and they sent it out, these children will be victimized for the rest of their lives,” said Sheriff Judd.

Egbert was arrested for enhanced possession of child pornography, capital sexual battery, and promotion of child pornography among other charges. Lavin, 30, was charged with capital sexual battery and promoting sexual performance by a child among other crimes. Two others, Ivonnette Leon and Shannon Speller, were arrested for interfering with the investigation. Leon is charged with tampering with a victim, accessory after the fact, and contributing to the dependency of a minor. Speller is charged with accessory after the fact.

Speller owned “Kids Clubhouse Learning Center” in Winter Haven.

Could the CIA be behind the leak of the Pandora Papers, given their curious lack of focus on US nationals?

Hailed as shedding new light on the global elite’s complex financial arrangements, the Pandora Papers pose many questions – not least where are the Americans? Are the authors unwilling to bite the hidden hand that fed them?

On October 3, the Washington, DC-based International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) announced the leak of almost three terabytes of incriminating data on the use of offshore financial arrangements by celebrities, fraudsters, drug dealers, royal family members, and religious leaders the world over.

The ICIJ led what it called “the world’s largest-ever journalistic collaboration,” involving over 600 journalists from 150 media outlets in 117 countries, to comb through the trove of 12 million documents, dubbed the ‘Pandora Papers’.

Among other things, the data reveals the use of tax and financial secrecy havens “to purchase real estate, yachts, jets and life insurance; their use to make investments and to move money between bank accounts; estate planning and other inheritance issues; and the avoidance of taxes through complex financial schemes.” Some documents are also said to be tied to “financial crimes, including money laundering.”

While the publication of articles related to the documents’ bombshell contents is only in its early stages, the Consortium promises that the records contain “an unprecedented amount of information on so-called beneficial owners of entities registered in the British Virgin Islands, Seychelles, Hong Kong, Belize, Panama, South Dakota and other secrecy jurisdictions,” with over 330 politicians and 130 Forbes billionaires named.

Despite the voluminous haul, many critics have pointed out that ICIJ maps of where these “elites and crooks” hail from and/or reside are heavily weighted towards Russia and Latin America – for example, not a single corrupt politician named is based in the US. The organization itself notes that the most significantly represented nations in the files are Argentina, Brazil, China, Russia and the UK – which seems odd, when one considers the Consortium identified over $1 billion held in US-based trusts, key instruments for tax avoidance, evasion, and money laundering.

Then again, past blockbuster releases by the ICIJ, and the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), its chief collaborator, have contained similarly incongruous omissions. For instance, in March 2019, the latter exposed the ‘Troika Laundromat’, through which Russian politicians, oligarchs, and criminals allegedly funnelled billions of dollars.

The OCCRP published numerous reports on the connivance, and detailed information on the many millions laundered via major Western financial institutions in the process, including Deutsche Bank and JPMorgan Chase. However, not once was HSBC ever mentioned – despite the Troika having openly advertised the bank as its “agent partner,” and then-OCCRP data team head Friedrich Lindberg publicly conceding that HSBC was “incredibly prominent” in “all” of the Troika’s corrupt schemes.

Xi Jinping Vows Chinese Labs Dealing With Deadly Pathogens To Face Greater Scrutiny

Chinese President Xi Jinping has warned the Communist Party Leadership that laboratories handling dangerous pathogens must have greater oversight.

Speaking at the Politburo's first-ever group study session on biosecurity, Xi told the gathering that biosecurity is an important part of national security, and a force that "affects and can even reshape the world," according to SCMP, citing state news agency Xinhua.

"Xi Jinping emphasised that, at present, traditional biosecurity issues and new biosecurity risks are superimposed on each other, and biological threats from overseas and domestic biological risks are intertwined," according to Xinhua.

Xi's comments - which some may interpret as a tacit admission that Covid-19 leaked from a Chinese laboratory, comes after nearly two years of mounting evidence that research conducted by scientists in Wuhan, China - who were collaborating with NIH-funded New York nonprofit EcoHealth Alliance, may have led to the Covid-19 pandemic after several lab workers reportedly fell ill with Covid-like symptoms in late 2019.

During a June hearing held by House GOP to discuss the origins of the pandemic, Dr. Brett Giroir, who served as Assistant Secretary for Health in President Trump’s HHS, stated “This is a worldwide pandemic in which millions of people have died. It may have been the result of a lab-leak — and we think highly likely it is.”

When questioned on ‘gain of function’ research at the Wuhan lab, Giroir said “it’s unbelievable to me that coronavirus work wouldn’t even get into the process.”

“If you look at the abstract from the latest grant that was done to EcoHealth, it talks about using protein sequence data, infectious clone technology, in vitro and in vivo infection experiments. This is all gain-of-function. How this could not get into the P3 process is unbelievable,” Giroir continued, referencing the P3CO oversight board that decides on U.S. funding of the research.
