No, no. They've gone way beyond that with sustainable regenerative systems. If left alone, they could remain comfy for a very, very long time. What we would need to do in that situation is pump drilling mud into the air vents and basically not stop until no more air bubbles come up.

 

If Anon had to guess he would say that's was was done to the underground cities of the elite of the last civilization. Wouldn't that be a fun excavationโ€ฆ!

Naw, totally a guess\conjecture. I bet Africa used to be a lot nicer. Anon supposes that the last war for the planet got really nasty, with scalar weapons that atomized entire cities and the land itself, producing the preponderance of sterile desert one now finds there. If there were underground cities, it seems unlikely they would have been left to fester.
