The species, found in Pant-y-ffynnon, has been named Pendraig milnerae – Pendraig meaning ‘Chief Dragon’ in Middle Welsh, a reference to the species’ likely position as an apex predator of the area and its discovery in Wales, which has a dragon on the national flag.
The oldest known meat-eating dinosaur in the UK has been discovered in a quarry in south Wales – and named the Chief Dragon.
The newly-discovered dinosaur species is part of the theropod family, a group of dinosaurs that eventually evolved into the more famous Tyrannosaurus rex.
It lived between 200 and 215 million years ago during the Late Triassic period and is thought to have had a body size around that of a modern-day chicken.
**Article caught my eye on the reference to "chief dragon" - Masonic author, George Oliver, also noted Freemasonry’s connection with the Druids. “The Druids had a high veneration for the Serpent. Their great god, Hu, was typified by that reptile; and he is represented by the Bards as “the wonderful chief Dragon, the sovereign of heaven.” - http://www.whale.to/c/druid.html
