Masons have been persecuted for a long time by the same people who persecute modern conservatives. Anti-Masonry has always been tied with Anti-Semitism so be careful falling into the "Masonry is evil" trap.
The Japs even said they weren't after the Chinese people, they were after the Masons….and the Japs were equally as sinister as the Nazis.
