I am wondering why the governor has the power to approve or veto voting laws passed by the Michigan Legislature. The U.S. Constitution is clear that the State Legislature has the sole authority to determine voting laws. To me that means the administrative branch of the governor has no authority to approve or veto anything concerning voting laws passed by the State Legislature. The U.S. Constitution did not say the States were to make laws concerning voting, which would require the Governor. But, it specifically say this is for the State Legislature and doesn’t give that power to any other entity.
