Afghan smuggling network dismantled in Romania and Germany

The suspects pushed migrants into the back of large lorries while drivers were taking sleep breaks

The German Federal Police (Bundespolizei) and the Romanian Police (Poliția Română), supported by Europol and Eurojust, dismantled an organised crime group involved in the migrant smuggling of predominantly Afghan nationals.

The investigative activities suggest that the network had been operating in the Romanian counties Timiş and Arad since May 2020. The criminal network, composed mainly of Afghan nationals, was smuggling Afghan migrants recruited from refugee camps and other places where asylum seekers gather. The suspects are believed to have smuggled about 200 migrants from Romania to countries in Western Europe, mainly France and Germany. The network facilitated the illegal transport and accommodation at transit points. Migrants were paying between € 1 000 and € 2 000 for the dangerous trip in the back of large lorries.

Hidden between goods such as tree trunks and pallets, the migrants endured low temperatures and inhuman conditions during several days of transport. German investigators from Rosenheim and Munich detected about 50 similar cases. According to the investigations, the truck drivers were not aware that they had people in the back of their trucks. While the drivers took their sleep breaks in Romania, the smugglers released the sealed ropes covering the doors of the trailers to make an opening. From there, the migrants were able to enter the loading area unnoticed. Once in Germany, they jumped off the truck when the drivers took breaks or unloaded the cargo.

Cross-border cooperation

Europol facilitated the exchange of information and provided operational coordination and analytical support. On the action day, Europol enabled a virtual command post to facilitate the real-time exchange of information. Europol also deployed an analyst to Romania to cross-check operational information against Europol’s databases to provide leads to investigators in the field.

Eurojust set up a joint investigation team (JIT) between Germany, Romania and Europol to facilitate the judicial cooperation.

HSI El Paso arrests human smuggler for harboring and transporting more than 100 noncitizens in tractor-trailers throughout the US

EL PASO, Texas – An area man was arrested Thursday for harboring and transporting more than 100 noncitizens who were driven to various U.S. cities in tractor-trailers.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) El Paso members of the Border Enforcement Security Taskforce investigated the case with the assistance of the U.S. Border Patrol’s (USBP) El Paso Sector Integrated Targeting Team (ITT). El Paso Sector USBP agents are embedded with HSI special agents to combine resources and intelligence to identify and arrest human smugglers. The Horizon City (Texas) Police Department also participated in this case.

Roberto Benavides, 47, was arrested at his residence in the 14000 block of Warren Belin Drive in Horizon City, Texas. He was a target of an HSI El Paso investigation for more than a year.

“Human smugglers are callous individuals who are driven by greed with total disregard for the health and safety of the people they exploit and endanger,” said Acting Special Agent in Charge Taekuk Cho. “HSI will continue to work tirelessly utilizing our broad authorities alongside our partners to combat smuggling networks responsible for this dangerous and often deadly activity.”

“I am extremely proud of the work our El Paso Sector agents conduct each and every day to disrupt these Transnational Criminal Organizations.” said El Paso Sector Chief Patrol Agent Gloria I. Chavez. “Our seamless partnership with Homeland Security Investigations has allowed for enhanced targeting of this illicit activity. Together, we will continue to succeed in combating these criminal organizations while saving human lives in the El Paso region.”

On Sept. 30, agents also executed two federal search warrants on two area properties used to facilitate human smuggling activity. Agents seized more than $27,000 from both properties, and encountered 37 noncitizens: 23 Hondurans, six Ecuadorans, four Peruvians, two Mexicans, and two El Salvadorans.

HSI is a directorate of ICE and the principal investigative arm of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), responsible for investigating transnational crime and threats, specifically those criminal organizations that exploit the global infrastructure through which international trade, travel and finance move. HSI’s workforce of over 10,400 employees consists of more than 7,100 special agents assigned to 220 cities throughout the United States, and 80 overseas locations in 53 countries. Report: Human Trafficking is World’s No 1 Criminal Economy

People are the most traded commodity in the world of organized crime, but whatever the criminals choose to make profit from, in most cases they have the blessing of state actors, a Swiss-based civil-society organization said in its first Global Organized Crime Index, which attempts to quantify criminal activity across the 193 U.N. member states.

“The results, which draw from a comprehensive dataset informed by experts worldwide, paint a worrying picture of the reach, scale and impact of organized crime,” the The Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime (GI-TOC) report said.

“It is a sobering thought, for instance, that nearly 80% of the world’s population today live in countries with high levels of criminality,” it added.

The first index of this kind the organization released, ranked the Democratic Republic of the Congo highest in the world for it’s rates of criminality, followed closely by Colombia, Myanmar and Mexico. The least crime ridden societies were the Oceanic islands of Tuvalu and Nauru.

On average, organized criminal activity does not happen in the shadows but with the knowledge and approval of state actors, the report found.

“State officials and clientelist networks who hold influence over state authorities are now the most dominant brokers of organized crime, and not cartel leaders or mafia bosses, as one might be forgiven for thinking,” it said.

A nation's vulnerability to corruption directly influences its resiliency to organized crime, it concluded.

While bribery and corruption are widespread, GI-TOC found that “the exploitation of people, in the form of human trafficking, has become the most pervasive criminal economy in the world,” and the largest proportion of its victims are women and girls.

This was “alarming” and serves “as a dark reminder of the dehumanizing impact of organized crime,” the organization said.

It added that human trafficking is closely followed by the cannabis trade, arms trafficking and illicit wildlife trades.

To address this global scourge, one of the most important things is to first acknowledge its existence, then work on building up resilience measures, including democratic institutions, according to GI-TOC.

With such a high percentage of the world’s population living in countries plagued with high levels of criminality, “it is irrefutable that the threat posed by organized crime is among the world’s most pressing security issues,” the organization warned.

However, “good governance, characterized as states that are participatory, accountable, effective and founded on the rule of law, sets the foundation on which to build and strengthen institutional and non-state frameworks to better society and counter organized crime,” it concluded.

427,000 Parents Respond to National School Board Association Labeling Them 'Domestic Terrorists'

Last week, PJ Media covered the hysterical and threatening letter written by National School Boards Association (NSBA) president Viola Garcia. In the letter sent to none other than President Joe Biden, Garcia accused America’s concerned parents of threats, intimidation, and even “hate crimes” rising to the level of “domestic terrorism” for having the gall to speak up at their local school board meetings. The NSBA also requested “federal assistance to stop threats and acts of violence against school board members, school officials, and teachers.”

This week, however, the leaders of almost two dozen parent organizations fired back with a scathing letter of their own—and it is epic. The letter, written on behalf of members of several parent organizations, made clear that the NSBA’s claims of “hate” and “terrorism” were shameful:

NSBA cites a tiny number of minor incidents in order to insinuate that parents who are criticizing and protesting the decisions of school boards are engaging in, or may be engaging in, “domestic terrorism and hate crimes.” NSBA even invokes the PATRIOT Act. The association of legitimate protest with terrorism and violence reveals both your contempt for parents and your unwillingness to understand and hear the sincere cries of parents on behalf of their children. To equate parents with terrorists dishonors the thousands of victims of actual terrorism around the world. Have you no shame?

The parent organizations pointed out that the NSBA’s call for the federal government to use its power against parents was in itself a menacing and “thinly veiled threat, intended to intimidate into silence and submission the very constituents that [the NSBA] members ostensibly represent.” I mean, what else would you call asking the president to sic the Department of Justice, the FBI, Homeland Security, the Secret Service Assessment Center, and the Postal Service on America’s parents?

By contrast, America’s parent organizations “unequivocally oppose violence” and are made up of, not “domestic terrorists,” but “concerned citizens who care deeply about their community’s children – and who are concerned by the direction that America’s schools have taken.” It’s no secret many parents across the country are angry with what is happening (or not happening) in our taxpayer-funded schools:

Citizens are angry that school boards and school officials around the country are restricting access to public meetings, limiting public comment, and in some cases conducting business via text messages in violation of state open meetings laws.

They are angry that schools are charging them thousands of dollars in public records requests to view curriculum and training materials that impact their children and that should be open to the public by default.

They are angry that pandemic-related learning losses have compounded the already-low reading, writing, and math proficiency rates in America’s schools.

"Keyword Warrants" - Feds Secretly Ordered Google To Identify Anyone Searching Certain Information

An accidentally unsealed court document reveals that the federal government secretly ordered Google to provide data on people searching specific search words or phrases, otherwise known as "keyword warrants," according to Forbes.

According to the report, the Justice Department inadvertently unsealed the documents in September (which were promptly re-sealed), which were reviewed by Forbes. In several instances, law enforcement investigators asked Google to identify anyone searching for specific keywords.

The first case was in 2019 when federal investigators were on the hunt for men they believed sex-trafficked a minor. According to a search warrant, the minor went missing but reappeared a year later and claimed to have been kidnapped and sexually assaulted. Investigators asked Google if anyone had searched the minor's name. The tech giant responded and provided law enforcement agents with Google accounts and IP addresses of those who made the searches.

There have been other rare examples of so-called keyword warrants, such as in 2020 when police asked Google if anyone searched for the address of an arson victim in the government's racketeering case against singer R Kelly. Then in 2017, a Minnesota judge requested Google to provide information on anyone who searched for a fraud victim's name.

After publication, Jennifer Lynch, surveillance litigation director at the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), highlighted three other Google keyword warrants that were used in the investigation into serial Austin bombings in 2018, which resulted in the deaths of two people.

Not widely discussed at the time, the orders appear even broader than the one above, asking for IP addresses and Google account information of individuals who searched for various addresses and some terms associated with bomb making, such as “low explosives” and “pipe bomb.” Similar orders were served on Microsoft and Yahoo for their respective search engines.

As for what data the tech companies gave to investigators, that information remains under seal.

The Nigerian politician has been accused by the US Department of Justice (DoJ) of playing an “instrumental role” in a corruption scheme that resulted in the plundering of billions of dollars from the coffers of West Africa's most populous nation. Bagudu has consistently denied any wrongdoing.

Trudeau mandates COVID jabs for all travelers, federal workers

Trudeau said only a ‘limited’ number of medical exemptions will be made for those who are un-jabbed and want to travel or work in the public service.

Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau on Wednesday announced draconian and unprecedented COVID-19 jab mandates for all federal workers, and said the unjabbed will no longer be able to travel by air, boat, or train.

All public servants, including even those who work remotely from home, have until the end of October to get their COVID jabs. If they do not do so, they will be placed on unpaid leave and will not be eligible for unemployment benefits.

“If you’ve done the right thing and gotten vaccinated, you deserve the freedom to be safe from COVID. To have your kids be safe from COVID. To get back to the things you love,” said Trudeau during a press conference in Ottawa.

Trudeau said new travel measures and jab mandates for federal workers “are some of the strongest in the world.”

“Because when it comes to keeping you and your family safe, when it comes to avoiding lockdowns for everyone, this is no time for half measures,” said Trudeau. “The rules are very simple, to travel, you’ve got to be vaccinated.”

The government will allow the unvaccinated until November 30 to travel by air, boat, and rail, so long as they produce a negative COVID-19 test.

Sydney priest charged with sexually touching two women

A Sydney priest has been charged with sexually touching two women, including at least one incident at a church.

NSW Police said detectives began investigating in July after two women, aged 22 and 45, alleged they had been sexually touched on multiple occasions by a man known to them.

Police arrested a 33-year-old man at a home in Mays Hill on September 1 and he was charged with seven counts of aggravated sexually touching another person.

It's alleged the incidents occurred at a home in Bankstown and a church at Mangrove on the NSW Central Coast while the man was undertaking duties as a priest between August 2019 and February 2020.

He was granted conditional bail and is due to face Bankstown Local Court on Thursday.

Police said inquiries were continuing.

He also identified 700,000 ballots with issues identified in Maricopa County alone. Reminder, Biden was given Arizona with a 10,800 vote margin or a margin of 0.04%.

Pulitzer was on the radio this morning and he addressed and summarized all the circles above and noted that the total was more than 700,000 ballot issues. He also noted that these items were from the audit report to the Senate and the work of the canvassers in the county. Here are some of his comments:

Jovan Pulitzer provided the following diagram online a couple of days ago that describes the status of the results from the audit and canvass work in Maricopa County Arizona. He also identified 700,000 ballots with issues identified in Maricopa County alone. Reminder, Biden was given Arizona with a 10,800 vote margin or a margin of 0.04%.

Pulitzer was on the radio this morning and he addressed and summarized all the circles above and noted that the total was more than 700,000 ballot issues. He also noted that these items were from the audit report to the Senate and the work of the canvassers in the county. Here are some of his comments:

I think people need to visually see all the errors, all the information that shows, hey, Maricopa at its worst literally should be decertified, at its best could easily be redone…

…I just charted out a very simple way to understand how bad is the bad. If they’re just pie charts, if you think here in this election was won on .049047%, right? It’s such a small margin that it could have swung any way…

…There are eight charts across the top, those are just the low hanging fruit that show this election has serious issues because any one of these would demand that it can’t be certified or it needs to be rerun.

NATO expels eight members of Russia team, says they were secretly working as intelligence officers

Relations between NATO and Russia have been increasingly strained since 2014 when Moscow annexed Ukraine’s Crimean Peninsula

NATO on Wednesday expelled eight Russian members, saying that they were secretly working as intelligence officers.

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization, or NATO, is an intergovernmental military alliance between 28 European countries and two North American countries including the U.S.

"We can confirm that we have withdrawn the accreditation of eight members of the Russian Mission to NATO, who were undeclared Russian intelligence officers,” said a NATO official, under the alliance’s customary conditions of anonymity.

NATO also reduced from 20 to 10 the number of positions that Russia can accredit to work at the alliance’s Brussels headquarters, according to the Associated Press.

Relations between NATO and Russia have been increasingly strained since 2014 when Moscow annexed Ukraine’s Crimean Peninsula. The two also are at odds over Russia’s nuclear missile development, aerial intrusions into NATO airspace and the buzzing of allied ships by fighter planes, the wire service also reports.

Leonid Slutsky, the chairman of the foreign affairs committee in the lower house of Russian parliament, dismissed the accusations against the Russian diplomats as baseless and warned that NATO’s move will further strain relations, also according to the Associated Press.
