The history of native people in Canada teaches lessons about Government lies and tyranny. There are many lessons from the history of eastern europeans who experienced communism for generations, too. NATIVES and IMMIGRANTS get it. Spread the message to all CANUCKS. Fight now or lose everything.
Nancy Scanie is an 85-year old survivor of reservation schools, abuse, cancer, and much more. Tough as nails. She dug in and retrieved an historical letter from Queen Victoria to Scanie's ancestors; the letter was the codification of a bargain struck with the native people but this bargain, The Queen's Bargain, was set aside and hidden by the Government for decades. She has begun to successfully use it in the court system, she says in the interview.
There is great symbolism in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms but if it is not upheld in the courts it is just a piece of paper. Great bargains, such as that which led to the Canadian Constitution of 1984, are nothing if we do not fight to make it something each and every day.
