I think he was hoping to be able to wait until more than half the term was over so that he would finish it out but still get the 4 full years of the term he actually won, for a total of six consecutive years in office. Doesnt look like that can happen; they are in the middle of their own Operation Warpspeed to destroy the country. They know they're done for so why not burn it down.
