It is a relatively common belief in consciousness theory that any system of sufficient complexity can express consciousness. This means that systems which include multiple humans are very likely to have the ability to express a consciousness that much more complex than each of it's parts individually. Even systems simpler than ourselves possess the ability to express consciousness, though of a proportionately reduced complexity. My point is, there are many levels of systems both larger and smaller than ourselves which express themselves in their own ways. Failing to recognize this truth, and treating the world as a blank slate upon which one can draw anything they please, will bring a person into conflict with higher order systems. Obviously we can't possibly know everything about such vastly more complex systems with our limited processing power, so we have to guess and try and fail a lot, but as long as a person maintains an earnest conviction in eventually reaching harmony with the greater systems they will not be betrayed by them.
