I wouldn't even utter Trump's name to him. People get triggered by that. Just tell him that it's because we don't have energy independence anymore, and leave it at that. Let it roll around in his brain for a while, and maybe he'll look into it. If he doesn't, then just forget it. Let the coming storm convince him instead.
