Federal Judge Restrains United Airlines From Enforcing Covid Vaccine Mandate on Employees Seeking Religious Exemption

A federal judge in Texas temporarily restrained United Airline from placing employees on paid leave who seek religious exemptions for Covid vaccinations.

Two weeks ago United Airlines employees sued the company in a federal court in Texas over its Covid vaccine mandate.

Attorneys for the employees argued the airliner’s vaccine mandate violates the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

According to the employees, United is not accommodating religious or medical exemptions as promised – rather, the employees are being put on six years paid leave.

According to Reuters, the temporary restraining order is in place until October 26.

In August, United said all of all its 67,000 US-based employees must be vaccinated for Covid by September 27 unless they had a religious or medical exemption.

593 employees have yet to get jabbed after the September 27 deadline passed.

Anti-corruption probe told thousands of taxpayer dollars used in postage stamp rort

A former electorate officer of Adem Somyurek has told the IBAC anti-corruption probe he used thousands of dollars of taxpayer funds to purchase stamps to be used in a state MP’s re-election campaign.

Thousands of dollars of taxpayer funds were used to purchase stamps for use in a state MP’s re-election campaign, a former electorate officer of Adem Somyurek told the IBAC anti-corruption probe on Wednesday.

Adam Sullivan, who worked at Mr Somyurek’s electoral office for nine months between August 2017 and April 2018, told the hearing on Wednesday that in 2018 he was called by Nick McLennan suggesting he purchase stamps from Mr Somyurek’s electoral office budget.

As Mr Sullivan outlined during his testimony, electoral office budgets were not supposed to be used for political purposes and were meant only for public service, such as “constituent outreach”.

Once the stamps were purchased they were ‘rerouted’ to “Tim Richardson’s re-election campaign in Mordialloc” he said.

Mr Sullivan said each stamp cost a dollar each and he spent between $11,000 to $14,000 on stamps.

“I think at the end of that process, personally, myself, I purchased around $11,000 or $14,000 worth of stamps.”

He said a ‘fair number’ of these were then ‘rerouted for political purposes’.

Mr Sullivan admitted he didn’t have a direct conversation with Mr Somyurek about the stamps but believed the former Victorian minister had given his ‘tacit approval’ and that the general atmosphere of the office made Mr Sullivan assume it would not be a problem.
