The Owner’s Point of View

The “40,000 Foot Owners View” symbolizes the number one rule for owners who want to be successful: stay at the 40,000 foot level for planning and making decisions instead of getting bogged down in the day-to-day weeds of running and managing the business. This is especially important when using networking to grow a business. It’s a critical skill owners must have in order to survive the challenges and take advantage of opportunities.

Without a 40K Owner’s Point of View

Without that high vantage point, owners never look around to see and consider possibilities, to smell the roses, to feel good about what they have accomplished. Life is too short for that.

Here’s what we’ve found. Consider these as rules to grow by:

Owners who are satisfied just doing the work, would probably be happier working for someone else.

Owners who just want to do what they have always done and not explore or try new things, would probably be happier as managers.

Owners who don’t spend at least 15% of their time each month looking at their business from the owner’s point of view will always have volatile businesses with sales and cash flow problems.

Owner vs Manager vs Employee

An owner must, at times, an employee and a manager. But he or she is also free to dream, plan, or just goof off. He or she must also see how everything interrelates — a change in sales will affect finances, management, books, etc. The best business decisions are made with a 360 degree view of the world in which the business operates. This requires as high as a 40,000 foot view of what’s happening all around. The sky must be the limit in order to ramp up or scale up a business.

Do you have the skill to take and act on the owner’s point of view? Where do you shine? Where do you fall short?

And now a bit of Qontext.

A View from 40,000 Feet: International Law and the Invisible Hand of Technology

Introduction – A New Perspective on Technology in International Law

From the Stone Age to the space age, technology has acted as an invisible hand on the development of society, culture and the law. This invisible hand has also reached across borders to have a significant impact on international law, from prehistory to the descent of the Mir Space Station into the Pacific Ocean. Technology has been ubiquitous in international law. Furthermore, with the increasing significance of technology in this Electronic Age, technology will continue to play a significant role in the creation, alteration and destruction of international law.
