Anon recently started studying jazz theory and learning jazz standards on guitar. Never really understood or appreciated the genre even as a listener. Now I know why.

Jazz is degenerate in that built into it is a lack of conviction. Among the ancient modes are Ionian (major, joyful, inspirational, triumphant) and Aeolian (minor, mysterious, melancholy). The other five modes (Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Locrian) are more nuanced in terms of emotional resonance, but as they were used throughout medieval and classical compositions, there was always resolution, i.e. conviction. A symphony would modulate, but if it was in a major key, then it began with a major scale and ended with a major scale.

How does most jazz feel? Could you ever set a war movie or a heroic epic to jazz? It is by nature uncertain, because its chord progressions almost always resolve in a major 7th chord. Whenever you see a movie that is set to jazz, it will always feature degeneracy – soft degeneracy, weakness, forlornness, sordidness, lack of fortitude and moral character. Jazz more so than pop or any other modern genre is the soundtrack of the apathetic mind obsessed with transient little emotions. There is nothing heroic in it. In fact, by its very nature, there can be nothing heroic in it. At least you can take rock or metal and write a kick-ass anthem dedicated to defeating the forces of evil. You simply can do no such thing with jazz. You can only sing about love affairs and trifling flights of fancy. Children's songs for adults. Much more so than rock or metal, jazz is the Devil's music.

That verse in the Bible warning against being lukewarm? Jazz is the sonic essence of lukewarm.

Miles Mathis is right about modernism.
