Union President Estimates 3,200 Chicago Police Defying Vaccine Reporting Rules

Chicago Fraternal Order of Police president John Catanzara estimates approximately 3,200 officers are defying the city’s coronavirus vaccine reporting mandate.

Under Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s rules, officers had to confirm their vaccine status or be subjected to unpaid leave by Friday. Unvaccinated officers can stay on the job if they undergo semiweekly testing.

“The unofficial number we have is about over 3,200; so about of third of the department,” Catanzara told CBS 2, calling the mandate illegal. The police union head told the news outlet that the rules should be null and void because city officials didn’t negotiate with the union.

“If they refuse, it sounds like they’re going to go into a no pay status, effective immediately,” he lamented. “All of those things are a change in your employment policies. You have to negotiate with us what that looks like. The city has refused to do that.”

On Friday, Lightfoot directed her administration to file a Complaint for Injunctive Relief against the city’s police union, accusing it of “engaging in, supporting, and encouraging a work stoppage or strike” after Catanzara urged officers to defy the mandate deadline.

“As Chicago’s Mayor, I cannot and will not stand idly by while the rhetoric of conspiracy theorists threatens the health and safety of Chicago’s residents and first responders,” Lightfoot said in a statement obtained by NBC 5. “President Catanzara has time and again deliberately misled our police officers by lying about the requirements of the policy and falsely claiming that there will be no repercussions if officers are insubordinate and refuse to follow a City and Department directive or order.”

Chicago Alderman Anthony Napolitano recently joined five other local lawmakers urging Lightfoot to back down from the mandate, calling it an “infringement on our constitutional rights,” while warning that a potential shortage in officers could make the streets of Chicago even more dangerous.

“If you remove even more police from that equation, our streets are gonna be completely lost. … You’re gonna have cars not manned. There’s gonna be no officers in cars. … You’ll get in your car and you’ll have 20 or 30 jobs waiting for you,” Napolitano said Wednesday. “Criminals know this stuff. they know what’s going on. You’re gonna see pure melee.”

Meanwhile, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D) has offered to activate the state’s National Guard if the mandate leads to officer shortages in the city.

“I think you understand by now that you can’t just march National Guard into a city without coordinating, and you can’t just march state police into a city without coordinating with the Chicago Police Department,” Pritzker said. “So at every turn, we have continuing conversations with them, but we need the leadership of the city to ask us.”

While Bush & Biden praise the late Colin Powell, ‘war criminal’ trends on Twitter

The death of General Colin Powell has drawn an outpouring of sympathy and praise from politicians, but social media users made “war criminal” trend instead, having not forgiven Powell for his role in the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

Powell died on Monday of complications from Covid-19, according to his family. He was eulogized in major media outlets as the first black secretary of state and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. President Joe Biden said Powell embodied “the highest ideals of both warrior and diplomat,” while 43rd president George W. Bush called him a “great public servant.”

Another image, however, dominated the social media reactions to his death: that of Powell holding up a vial of fake anthrax in the UN General Assembly in 2003, claiming that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and making the case for the US invasion that followed.

COP26

What do we need to achieve at COP26?

  1. Secure global net zero by mid-century and keep 1.5 degrees within reach

Countries are being asked to come forward with ambitious 2030 emissions reductions targets that align with reaching net zero by the middle of the century.

To deliver on these stretching targets, countries will need to:

accelerate the phase-out of coal

curtail deforestation

speed up the switch to electric vehicles

encourage investment in renewables.

  1. Adapt to protect communities and natural habitats

The climate is already changing and it will continue to change even as we reduce emissions, with devastating effects.

At COP26 we need to work together to enable and encourage countries affected by climate change to:

protect and restore ecosystems

build defences, warning systems and resilient infrastructure and agriculture to avoid loss of homes, livelihoods and even lives

  1. Mobilise finance

To deliver on our first two goals, developed countries must make good on their promise to mobilise at least $100bn in climate finance per year by 2020.

International financial institutions must play their part and we need work towards unleashing the trillions in private and public sector finance required to secure global net zero.

  1. Work together to deliver

We can only rise to the challenges of the climate crisis by working together.

At COP26 we must:

finalise the Paris Rulebook (the detailed rules that make the Paris Agreement operational)

accelerate action to tackle the climate crisis through collaboration between governments, businesses and civil society.

Sr Bottani: Working together we can fight human trafficking

Talitha Kum International Coordinator, Sr. Gabriella Bottani, speaks to Vatican Radio about empowering the new generation in the fight against human trafficking.

Over the last few years, the younger generation has been making its voice heard in the fight against climate change. Just recently, young people met in Milan to pressure world leaders to take action on this issue ahead of the COP26 Climate Summit due to start in Glasgow at the end of October.

But it’s not just on this issue in which young people are coming to the fore; they are also proving to be agents of change in the fight against modern slavery, which is why a Symposium was held in Rome this week focusing on teaching and empowering the next generation about human trafficking.

The event entitled “Empowering a New Generation to Fight Modern Slavery,” was organized by the International Union of Superiors General (UISG), together with the Irish and US embassies to the Holy See.

Participating at the Symposium was Talitha Kum International Coordinator, Sister Gabriella Bottani.

Founded in 2009 by the International Union of Superiors Generals (UISG), Talitha Kum International coordinates 50 networks in over 90 countries.

Last year alone, “Talitha Kum networks worldwide cared for 17,000 survivors of human trafficking, providing safe housing, education and job opportunities, support to access justice and compensation, and healthcare and psychosocial assistance. During the same period, almost 170,000 people benefited from prevention and awareness-raising activities organized by Talitha Kum,” a statement revealed.

Empowerment

Speaking to Vatican Radio at the Symposium, Sr Bottani emphasized the importance of getting younger people on board in the fight against this heinous crime.

“The theme of the Symposium is really important because human trafficking is growing and is something not concluding, so we need really to improve our commitment involving more and more the younger generation,” she said.

One of Talitha Kum’s priorities is to train religious sisters as leaders in the fight against human trafficking. To date, they have trained more than 1,500 people throughout the world. Sr Bottoni noted that they are receiving more and more requests from people who want to get involved.

“Then we have the younger generation asking to join us, bringing with them ‘the fresh air' of the younger generation.” She added that a group of 26 youth ambassadors has been created who are involved in anti-trafficking initiatives in 11 countries in South and South-East Asia.

Speaking about the dynamism of this new generation, she said it was important to listen to them and work with them. “The idea of exploitation of the environment and of people is something we can combat and really fight together.”

kek Aus msm cover story for the vax resignations

The Great Resignation: Millions of Aussies predicted to leave jobs

A trend called the Great Resignation is happening across the US, with staff from all types of industries leaving their jobs – and “exhausted” Aussies could follow.

Kelly Knowles* sees resigning from her senior leadership role at a major bank, where she earns a six-figure salary, as leaving an “abusive relationship”.

She is one of millions of Aussies expected to quit their job in the coming months as part of the Great Resignation – a phenomenon currently playing out in the US.

In August alone, 4.3 million people in the US left their jobs, according to the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey, and it includes everyone from frontline workers to senior executives.

Then there’s Microsoft research that revealed that 40 per cent of the workplace globally is considering bidding farewell to their employers this year.

Ms Knowles has been with the bank for over a decade and said her managers will be shocked when she resigns as they would have marked her as a “lifer”.

The mother-of-one told news.com.au that during the pandemic she had worked “harder than ever before” as she dealt with endless Zoom calls and addressing new customer problems, all while the company expected growth plans to continue.

“I worked my first all-nighter in my career. I was at my desk from 8am to 8am. I worked 60 to 70-hour weeks for three months and I was not really rewarded or recognised for that at all,” she said.

Even after the first Sydney lockdown, Ms Knowles said she feels like she has been doing the job of multiple people with little thanks.

“On top of that, I think the major painpoint I have is the way that people treat each other,” she said.

“There is a culture that I have just accepted for my whole life on how people make me feel in the workplace and I’ve determined I won’t accept that anymore. I don’t even have a job to go to when I resign.

“I’m investing and I’m prioritising in my mental health and my physical health. It honestly feels like I’m just coming out of this abusive relationship and I’ve been gaslighted and there is a better world and I can finally see it.”

NT Chief Minister Michael Gunner fires back at US Senator Ted Cruz over social media post

The Northern Territory's Chief Minister Michael Gunner has fired back at Texas Senator Ted Cruz for labelling the territory's vaccination policy as "disgraceful and sad".

A week ago Mr Gunner announced a sweeping vaccine mandate that would require a mandatory jab for most hospitality workers, bankers, receptionists, hairdressers, barbers, beauty therapists and more.

A video of Mr Gunner announcing the policy became the subject of intense interest by far-right American politicians on social media, who used it as an example of "COVID tyranny".

Mr Cruz shared the video of Mr Gunner, saying while he loves "the Aussies", "the COVID tyranny of their current government is disgraceful and sad".

Mr Gunner responded to Mr Cruz's tweet, saying "we don't need your lectures, thanks mate".

"Nearly 70,000 Texans have tragically died from COVID. There have been zero deaths in the Territory. Did you know that?" Mr Gunner said.

"We've done whatever it takes to protect the Territory. That's kept us safe and free. We have been in lock down for just eight days in 18 months. Our businesses and school are all open. Did you know that?

"We don't need your lectures, thanks mate. You know nothing about is. And if you stand against a life-saving vaccine, then you sure as hell don't stand with Australia."

Senator Cruz has been an infamous proponent of scrapping vaccine mandates, arguing any policy to make the jab compulsory "ignores medical data".

In his most recent statement, Senator Cruz criticised US President Biden after he ordered the US Labor Department to impose a COVID vaccine mandate on businesses with over 100 employees.

"While I support the vaccine and have received it, Americans have the right to exercise personal choice when it comes to their health," Mr Cruz said.

"Getting the vaccine is a decision to be made in consultation with one's doctor, not forced on Americans by the government.

State Department Launching Investigations Into Afghanistan Withdrawal

The State Department’s inspector general will investigate the Biden administration’s diplomatic operations in Afghanistan, a spokesperson confirmed with the Daily Caller News Foundation.

The series of investigations will tackle a range of issues, from the State Department’s Special Immigrant Visa program, to the processing of Afghans who applied for refugee admission into the U.S, to the resettlement of those refugees and visa recipients, according to an Oct. 15 action memorandum to Secretary of State Antony Blinken first obtained by Politico.

It will also evaluate the emergency evacuation of U.S citizens and Afghan nationals from the U.S. Embassy in Kabul after the Taliban took over the capital, Politico reported.

Diana Shaw, the department’s acting inspector general, said her office was beginning “several oversight projects” concerning the conclusion of the U.S. military and diplomatic missions in Afghanistan in a separate letter to top lawmakers obtained by Politico. Congress as a whole was notified in another letter on Monday.

Gov. Newsom Signs Cultural Marxist Bills

The California Legislature passed 836 bills this year, of which Gov. Gavin Newsom signed 770. That’s 92 percent. He vetoed only 66, or 8 percent. That’s about average for governors in recent years.

It’s also a reason the legislature ought to return to part-time status, as it was before the 1970s. Texas still maintains a part-time legislature meeting every other year. Its success is shown by how, with the 2020 U.S. Census, it gained two congressional seats as California lost one.

Although high taxes and regulations are the major reasons businesses and citizens are leaving California, another factor is dealing with the irrationality of the government. The state often just doesn’t make sense. It’s guaranteed to make even less sense in the future.

That has been a theme of the series of articles I’ve written on the bills this year, of which this will be the fourth and last. The theme of this article is Cultural Marxism.

One could write a dozen articles a week on the bills and only get part of the way through by the end of the year. Gov. Gavin Newsom was right, although in an ironic way he didn’t intend, when he said on Oct. 9 while signing his last batch of bills, “What we’re doing here in California is unprecedented in both nature and scale.”
