There are difficulties relating to the transverse velocity of the missile and the ability to get good enough trajectory data to target the laser. Sure it's all just math and radar ballistics but at the missile speeds we're talking about, the precision necessary to put a hole in the missile becomes tricky. I'm sure it's achieveable. But it's not "easy"

As with many similar problems, the difficult problems can be circumvented by using more lasers, larger lasers, and more powerful lasers. All those calculations between transverse velocity, signature radius, and the size of the laser aperture get easier and easier to nail as the laser aperture size increases. You don't need to be on target as long if your laser is more powerful. And if your system uses two lasers, you have an even easier time getting one of them on target.
