Premier Daniel Andrews has offered unvaccinated Victorians a grim reality check, saying they won’t be enjoying new freedoms until “well into 2022”.

Mr Andrews said it “made no sense” that NSW would let unvaccinated residents enjoy the same freedoms as vaccinated residents from December 1.

“I can recall Gladys making some announcements may be five or six weeks after the vaccinated economy started you would fold it up and it would not be there anymore,” he said.

“I do not know if Dominic has done the same thing. I do not know the answer to that. But does not make any sense to me, in any event. We will not be doing that here.

“Why would you have that thing up and running and then pull all the architecture that you have built, all the infrastructure that you have built, the culture that you have changed – why would you change that four, five weeks later?”

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk tells 400,000 Queenslanders they have 12 days to act if they want to enjoy a December 17 reopening

Annastacia Palaszczuk has given Queenslanders a 12-day deadline to get vaccinated or risk missing out on freedoms.

The Queensland government has given 400,000 unvaccinated Queenslanders just 12 days to get jabbed if they want to avoid catching the coronavirus from an influx of Christmas visitors and risk losing their freedoms.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk on Tuesday said a final vaccination push was needed if the state was to achieve the 80 per cent double-dose target it expects to hit for the reopening on December 17.

She is particularly concerned about the vaccine rates in regional Queensland, which are lagging those in state’s southeast corner and mean there are thousands of people vulnerable to Covid-carrying visitors when the border opens up.

“People will be travelling. Now, what that means is we put in a very strict criteria that people have to be fully vaccinated to come here, but I can‘t tell you when the next Delta outbreak is going to happen,” Ms Palaszczuk said at a press conference in Rockhampton.

“And the last thing you want to see is that outbreak happening here on your doorstep. If it comes through this region, with your vaccination rates at the moment, it will cause a lot of damage, and a lot of heartache”

Her message comes after the mayor of the Gold Coast “analysed the statistics” and demanded Queensland accelerate its border reopening plan by three weeks.

Mayor Tom Tate on Tuesday released figures he says justify a November 25 reopening of the state’s borders – and not the December 17 as announced by Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk on Monday.

Mr Tate said Queensland’s accelerating vaccination rates meant the border fencing between NSW and Queensland should be “ripped up and thrown in the bin” three weeks before the state government intended to do so.

FDA To Allow "Mixing and Matching" Of COVID Boosters

According to the latest iteration of the "science" it's really all the same and just jam it in there, because as the NYT reports, the Food and Drug Administration will allow Americans to "mix and match", i.e., receive a different Covid-19 vaccine as a booster than the one they initially received, a move that could "reduce the appeal of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine and provide flexibility to doctors and other vaccinators."

In other words, the mRNA lobby has just booked the entire second floor at Scores and is hoovering up industrial amounts of Colombian marching powder while surrounded by the best silicone money can rent.

In the latest example that money talks and what was scientific consensus until this morning walks, the government would not recommend one shot over another, and may instead note that using the same vaccine as a booster when possible is preferable, but vaccine providers could use their discretion to offer a different brand, a freedom that state health officials have been requesting for weeks. Maybe one should check if the bank accounts of said state health officials have suddenly seen a mysterious inflow of outside funds that prompted their agitation.

In any case, the approach was foreshadowed on Friday, when so-called "researchers" presented the findings of a federally funded “mix and match” study to an expert committee that advises the Food and Drug Administration. The study found that recipients of Johnson & Johnson’s single-dose shot who received a Moderna booster saw their antibody levels rise 76-fold in 15 days, compared with only a fourfold increase after an extra dose of Johnson & Johnson.

Immigration 'character test' bill to strengthen visa-cancellation powers to be reintroduced by government

The federal government is again seeking greater discretionary powers to cancel or refuse immigration visas on character grounds after its initial proposal was defeated two years ago.

An amendment to strengthen the migration 'character test' — which would see visas cancelled or refused for people convicted of a serious crime — could be introduced in the Senate as early as today.

The Morrison government first attempted to pass the laws in 2019, but they failed to win the support of Labor or crossbench senators.

Under the proposed laws, a non-citizen who has been convicted of a 'designated' offence punishable by at least two years' prison — such as violent or sexual assault crimes — could be refused a visa at the government's discretion, regardless of the sentence they actually serve.

Currently, the power to cancel visas is only available in cases where a person was actually sentenced to serve more than 12 months' prison.

The government also argues that people whose visas should have been cancelled have been allowed to stay thanks to technicalities, such as discounts to prison time for guilty pleas, or judges who reduced a sentence to avoid mandatory visa cancellation thresholds.

Immigration Minister Alex Hawke said the current laws leave a gap that allows for people who are a risk to the community to stay in the country.

"Holding an Australian visa is a privilege that dangerous and violent non-citizens do not deserve," Mr Hawke said in a statement.

"Anthony Albanese needs to back these new laws this week for the safety of the community — or explain to all Australians why he will not."

Labor is considering the proposed amendments.

However, Shadow Immigration Minister Kristina Keneally has previously expressed concern that low-level offenders could unintentionally be caught up in the changed laws and be deported unnecessarily.

17 State AGs Demand DOJ Cease Attempt to Silence Parents at School Board Meetings

A coalition of 17 state attorneys general is demanding that the U.S. Department of Justice immediately rescind a recent memo they say would “chill lawful dissent by parents voiced during local school board meetings.”

The DOJ memo, which has been the center of much criticism since its Oct 4 release, directs the FBI to work with state and local governments to address an alleged “disturbing spike in harassment, intimidation, and threats of violence” against teachers and school leaders. It came shortly after National School Boards Association (NSBA) urged the Biden administration to invoke counter-terrorism laws to handle “angry mobs” of parents seeking to hold school officials accountable for the teaching of the Marxist critical race theory and for imposing COVID-19 restrictions on their children.

In a letter (pdf) sent on Monday to President Joe Biden and Attorney General Merrick Garland, the chief legal officers argued that the memo doesn’t appear to be based on facts, but on a flawed NSBA narrative, which described disruptions at school board meetings as violent threats akin to “domestic terrorism.”

“The vast majority of incidents that NSBA cites involved disruptive and disorderly conduct rather than threats,” the letter reads. “In fact, in no known instance, has there been anything like the burning, looting, police assaults, vandalism and other criminal activity that occurred in the summer of 2020.”

The letter was referring to riots involving anarcho-communist group Antifa and Marxist group Black Lives Matter.

“Actual threats and violence towards school administrators, board members, teachers, or staff are rare,” the attorneys general noted, adding that there are already sufficient criminal and civil remedies available, without the need for FBI to intervene in “what is a quintessential local issue.”

The attorneys general further stated that the DOJ memo “is likely intimidating to parents,” who in many cases are, for the first time, exercising their First Amendment right to speak in a public forum.

“We as a country should celebrate their participation in our system of self-government, not silence them by accusing them of ‘domestic terrorism’ and threaten them with the prospect of the FBI knocking on their door to investigate their activities,” they added.

The letter was written by Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita, and co-signed by the attorneys general of Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Georgia, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, and Utah.

The letter comes as school board organizations in at least a dozen states distance themselves from the NSBA, citing disagreement over the way it characterized concerned parents. School boards in Alabama, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Montana, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia, have released statements opposing the NSBA letter to the Biden administration or Garland’s memo or both.

‘We Just Don’t Know’ How to Defend Against Possible Chinese Hypersonic Missile: US Ambassador

A new investigative report by the Financial Times asserted that China launched a nuclear-capable hypersonic missile, which circled the earth in a low orbit before cruising toward and narrowly missing a test target. The Chinese regime has officially denied the report’s findings, saying that the object in question was a spaceship.

U.S. disarmament ambassador Robert Wood said that Washington is concerned about China’s possible deployment of hypersonic weaponry, and said the United States hadn’t developed a means of countering it.

“Hypersonic technology is something that we have been concerned about, the potential military applications of it and we have held back from pursuing, we had held back from pursuing military applications for this technology,” Wood said at a press meeting in Geneva on Oct. 18.

“But we have seen China and Russia pursuing very actively the use, the militarization of this technology, so we are just having to respond in kind … We just don’t know how we can defend against that technology. Neither does China, neither does Russia.”

A Weapon Without Rebuttal

The Financial Times report, which cited five people familiar with the matter, and China’s subsequent rebuttal created a furor in parts of the U.S. intelligence community, which appeared unprepared for the news that China was so far into its efforts to develop hypersonic capabilities. Others were less surprised, however.

“Hypersonic weapons research and development has been underway in China for decades,” said Rick Fisher, a senior fellow at the International Assessment and Strategy Center. “In 2019, the People’s Liberation Army revealed the first medium-range HGV [hypersonic glide vehicle] weapon, its DF-17 HGV-armed missile system.”

“Thus, reports that China has combined a HGV strike system with a Fractional Orbital Bombardment System (FOBS) must be taken very seriously.”

HGVs are highly maneuverable vehicles that skip or “glide” their way to a target after being brought to low orbit by a rocket booster. FOBS is a system first theorized in the Soviet Union, in which a missile enters low orbit before striking its target, rather than arcing out of orbit before coming back to the surface.

The combination of the two technologies is important because, unlike a traditional intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) that exits the atmosphere and reenters using a predictable arc, the HSV/FOBS design allows for a payload to strike out with near-unlimited range from any direction once it is in orbit, effectively negating traditional early warning systems.

According to Fisher, this raises a red flag, as the United States currently lacks the capability to defend against an attack that uses such technology.

“On ICBMs, HGV weapons are capable of very sharp and rapid maneuvering that can help defeat missile defenses, assuming we have anti-HGV missile interceptors, which currently is not the case,” Fisher said.

“When HGVs arm new Chinese FOBS systems, which was just tested, you combine a strike system designed to avoid U.S. ground-based detection with a strike warhead that is very difficult to shoot down.”

“There are indications that China intends to arm its ICBMs with multiple HGV warheads, which increases their range and also their ability to defeat any U.S. defenses.”

"To better reflect the storylines that we are telling across DC and to honor Superman's incredible legacy of over 80 years of building a better world, Superman's motto is evolving," DC Chief Creative Officer and Publisher Jim Lee said. "Superman has long been a symbol of hope who inspires people, and it is that optimism and hope that powers him forward with this new mission statement."

A 2006 opinion piece by Erik Lundegaard says that according to Mark Waid, the familiar "American way" phrase first showed up on a radio program. That piece also said that the phrase was later used in a television program which aired during part of the 1950s.

"The new motto, which will be used in main continuity for Clark Kent's Superman, will be featured across all mediums including comic books, film, TV, video games and more. As comic book fans already know, the DC Multiverse has featured multiple Supermen over the years, sometimes even at the same time," according to DC Comics.

"In honor of the real-world superheroes who are striving to make this world a better place, the next generation of Superman characters like Jon Kent will be fighting for "Truth, Justice and a Better World", as first introduced in SUPERMAN: SON OF KAL-EL #1," the company said.

The announcement comes after the company recently revealed that Jon Kent, the son of Lois Lane and Clark Kent, will be bisexual. Actor Dean Cain, who more than two decades ago played the Man of Steel during a 1990s television series, described that announcement as "bandwagoning."

"After initially striking up a friendship with reporter Jay Nakamura, he and Jon become romantically involved in the pages of SUPERMAN: SON OF KAL-EL #5 from writer Tom Taylor (DARK KNIGHTS OF STEEL) and artist John Timms (HARLEY QUINN)," DC Comics announced earlier this month.

The Denver Art Museum to return four artifacts to Cambodia after Pandora Papers investigation coverage of indicted art dealer

The museum’s plan to send the ancient relics to their native country follows reporting that showed they were linked to Douglas Latchford, indicted in 2019 after decades of alleged trafficking.

The Denver Art Museum is preparing to return four antiquities to Cambodia following a news media collaboration that reported the pieces are linked to a man charged with trafficking looted artifacts.

The four antiquities to be returned came to the museum through Douglas Latchford, who in 2019 was indicted by U.S. prosecutors after decades of alleged trafficking in looted artifacts from the Khmer empire, which flourished in Southeast Asia a thousand years ago.

The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, the Washington Post and other media organizations in the Pandora Papers collaboration began contacting museum officials about pieces in their collection linked to Latchford in July and followed up with letters in September. The museum removed the four artifacts from its collection after receiving a letter from the news organizations seeking comment about the items.

“The museum is now working with the government to return the pieces to Cambodia,” museum spokesperson Kristy Bassuener said in an email.

The collaboration reported that 10 museums around the world held at least 43 relics that passed through the hands of Latchford or those of his associates identified by prosecutors.

The four relics from Denver are of “extraordinary cultural significance,” said Bradley J. Gordon, one of the lawyers representing the Cambodian Ministry of Culture.

Gordon is part of a team the ministry assembled to track down pieces looted from Cambodia during the decades of tumult around a civil war and the genocidal regime of Pol Pot.

While the Cambodian officials said they welcomed the Denver announcement, the protracted negotiations over the four pieces reflect the general reluctance of museums to return Khmer artifacts that Cambodian officials assert were stolen from the country.

Report: ‘Caravana Madre’ With 95,000 Migrants to March Through Mexico to US Starting This Saturday

Univision reported Monday that over 95,000 migrants are expected to form the “Caravana Madre” (mother caravan) to march though Mexico to the United States beginning this weekend. The migrants are now in the southern Mexican border town of Tapachula, located near the border with Guatemala where they are scheduled to start their march to the U.S. border with Mexico on Saturday, October 23 at 6 a.m. local time. The migrants are said to be a mix of Haitians and Central Americans.

Washington’s top envoy to Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad has resigned his post, the State Department said, amid mounting reports that the department will conduct a series of probes into the hasty and chaotic evacuation from Kabul.

Khalilzad’s resignation was announced by Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Monday, noting that he will soon be replaced by his deputy Thomas West, a holdover from the Barack Obama administration.

Thomas Jefferson statue to be removed from New York City Hall after panel vote

A statue of Thomas Jefferson is set to be removed from New York City Hall, following a vote Monday from a city commission.

According to The Hill, the New York Public City Design Commission, a panel of the City Council, voted unanimously to relocate the nearly 200-year-old statue, which currently resides within a council chamber.

The committee's decision was mainly based on Jefferson being a slaveholder, as well as being a lightning rod around debates surrounding race.

Back in June members of the City Council wrote a letter to Mayor Bill de Blasio, urging him to take action concerning the statute.

"There are disturbing images of divisiveness and racism in our City that need to be revisited immediately," said the letter obtained by NBC News.

According to NBC News, efforts to remove Jefferson's statue have been ongoing for years. However, renewed interest was sparked after last year's protest following the death of Geroge Floyd.

City Councilmember Inez Barron commented on the removal, assuring the public they were not attempting to rewrite the past.

"We’re not waging a war on history," Barron said in a statement. "We’re saying we want the total to be told, not half-truths, and we’re not perpetuating lies."

The council was also tasked with finding a new home for the statue, but the exact location has yet to be determined.

The statue is expected to be removed by the end of the year.

Christopher Steele, the former British spy whose dossier fed both a media and law enforcement frenzy over now-discredited allegations that Donald Trump colluded with Russia, has resurfaced in a media documentary to argue his work for Hillary Clinton's campaign law firm was professional and well-sourced.

"I stand by the work we did, the sources that we had, and the professionalism which we applied to it," Steele told ABC News host George Stephanopoulos in an interview aired Sunday that was part of a larger documentary released Monday on Hulu.

Steele's defense, however, flies in the face of an avalanche evidence — some of it offered by his lawyer and his friends and his own primary intelligence source — that he had not corroborated much of the intelligence he gave to the FBI during the 2016 election and that he suffered from strong anti-Trump biases.

Steele was terminated by the FBI as a confidential human source on Nov. 1, 2016 for leaking, and his work has been widely discredited and criticized by several subsequent investigations. His own legal team has also claimed Steele failed to aggressively validate the allegations he penned.

In a British court case he lost, Steele's own lawyer told the judge that Steele simply passed on raw information from sources he knew and trusted but did little to verify, even admitting the information would not pass an accuracy test for a court of law and should not be held to a high. bar of accuracy.

"It is raw intelligence. It is the basis for further investigation by the recipients," the lawyer argued last year. "So to put the bar too high in terms of establishing accuracy at that stage would be quite wrong in principle.

"We can say the critical consideration is that his confidential human intelligence was not factual evidence to be used in a personal or public report or in court or anything like that. We have just discussed what it was. It was raw intelligence to be passed on as part of a much bigger intelligence picture."

In fact, Steele's British lawyer even suggested that the news organization who published his dossier, Buzz Feed, was reckless to publish the information because of its unverified nature. "It was an editorial decision, probably a bad editorial decision, we say it was a bad editorial decision," the lawyer argued.
