when the Austrian neo-nazi was fleeing, he sent another to start the car in case of rigged explosives. starting the car didn't trigger it however.

knowledge that he smokes cigarettes caused the explosive to be triggered by the built-in cig lighter. He smokes cigs in his private self-recordings of a manifest of how he wants to ignite war between Russia and USA. Those recordings were shown during the film to show that they were recovered, or used at least. As a plot point yes they helped the main character "prove" he was right to the audience. But either way someone knew about his habit well enough to place it there, instead of ignition or pressure. Took that as military intelligence in proper use. idk how the book turned out but Clancy had influence on the movie too
