In 2013, Vice President Joe Biden brokered a deal with China that gave the country access to US markets without having to comply with US compliance regulations that US companies had to comply with. John Solomon at Just the News reported:

Since 2013, Chinese companies have been allowed to participate in U.S. stock and bond exchanges without having to fully comply with the same Sarbanes-Oxley Act accounting practices and risk disclosure required of American companies.

The concession was made in a little-noticed Memorandum of Understanding executed seven years ago by the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB), a nonprofit regulator empowered by the Sarbanes-Oxley law to ensure U.S. investors are protected from making bad investments because of faulty audits or financial information.

The agreement was reached in May 2013 after Chinese leaders pleaded for improved access to American capital markets in multiple meetings with then-Vice President Joe Biden, transcripts from the Obama administration’s archives show.

The Sarbanes-Oxley legislation cost US companies millions, if not billions, in compliance costs since put in place after the Enron collapse. For some reason, Biden thought Chinese companies should not have to comply with these requirements that are required of American companies to ensure accurate financials and key controls throughout company operations worldwide. These controls are audited at least annually and at a significant cost to the entity. There are also significant costs to prepare for these audits.

Rather than ensure China’s companies were at least as accurate in their reporting and as well-controlled, Biden gave Chinese companies a pass on the same requirements mandated of US companies. This deal allowed Chinese companies to obtain billions, if not trillions, in capital not available in China.

“We see with bemusement the process unfolding in countries that have grown accustomed to viewing themselves as flagships of progress,” he continued. “The proponents of so-called social progress believe they are bringing a new consciousness to humanity…but the recipes they come up with are nothing new.”

According to the president, the modern movement toward affirmative action and social justice is reminiscent of what happened after the 1917 revolution, when the Bolsheviks announced they would not only “change the habitual way of life” of the Russian people, but also change “the very idea of what human morality was” and “the foundations of a healthy society.”

EcoHealth Alliance violated terms of NIH grant with experiments on deadly MERS virus in China

New evidence has emerged that EcoHealth Alliance, a U.S. nonprofit that studies infectious diseases, and its research partners at the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China worked together on risky virus experiments that violated the terms of a National Institutes of Health grant awarded to the organization.

In September, the Intercept reported two grant proposals that were submitted to the NIH's National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases by EcoHealth Alliance. One of those grants, for a five-year project called "Understanding the Risk of Bat Coronavirus Emergence," appeared to show that researchers at the Wuhan lab were conducting experiments with bat coronaviruses that made those viruses more transmissible — which several experts told the news outlet fit the basic definition of gain-of-function research. Federal funding for such research was banned when the grant proposal was submitted, but the NIH granted an exemption and approved this grant.

When the NIH initially turned over documents detailing the grant proposal to the Intercept after a lawsuit earlier this year, the outlet said a progress report for the grant's fifth and final funding year was missing. Yesterday, the missing documents were provided to the Intercept and to Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.), who had inquired about the status of the progress report for the 2018-19 grant period.

NIH Principal Deputy Director Lawrence Tabak wrote in a letter to Comer that EcoHealth Alliance submitted the progress report in August 2021 "in response to NIH's compliance enforcement efforts," but did not explain why this "progress report" was submitted two years after the final grant period concluded.

The Intercept reported that the documents reveal that in the final year of the project, EcoHealth Alliance conducted gain-of-function experiments with clones of the MERS-CoV virus, which caused a deadly viral outbreak of the Middle East respiratory syndrome in 2012:

Yesterday, the NIH provided that missing report for the period ending May 2019, which was inexplicably dated August 2021. That summary of the group's work includes a description of an experiment the EcoHealth Alliance conducted involving infectious clones of MERS-CoV, the virus that caused a deadly outbreak of Middle East respiratory syndrome in 2012. MERS has a case-fatality rate as high as 35 percent, much higher than Covid-19's. The scientists swapped out the virus's receptor-binding domain, or RBD, a part of the spike protein that enables it to enter a host's cells, according to the report. "We constructed the full-length infectious clone of MERS-CoV, and replaced the RBD of MERS-CoV with the RBDs of various strains of HKU4-related coronaviruses previously identified in bats from different provinces in southern China," the scientists wrote.

"Changing the receptor binding site on MERS (from DPP4 to ACE2) is sort of crazy," wrote Jack Nunberg, a virologist and director of the Montana Biotechnology Center at the University of Montana, in an email to The Intercept after reviewing the documents. Nunberg described the experiment as "definitely gain of function," or experiments that may increase the transmissibility or virulence of pathogens, because it gave the virus "a new receptor, a new host range, and unpredictable properties." A virus's host range is the range of species and cell types it is able to infect. The researchers' intent, which some scientists consider integral to defining gain-of-function, remains unclear.

In his letter to Comer, Tabak doesn't mention MERS and describes the experiment as "limited." He states that "EcoHealth Alliance was testing if spike proteins from naturally occurring bat coronaviruses circulating in China were capable of binding to the human ACE2 receptor in a mouse model."

"In this limited experiment, laboratory mice infected with the SHC014 WIV1 bat coronavirus became sicker than those infected with the WIV1 bat coronavirus. As sometimes occurs in science, this was an unexpected result of the research, as opposed to something that the researchers set out to do," Tabak wrote.

‘Central Intelligence Corporation’: Twitter’s Dorsey dunks on Zuckerberg’s reported rebranding plans

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg reportedly wants to rename the site as part of his ambitions to create a virtual reality ‘metaverse’ – and competitors and critics have some suggestions on what it should be called.

The parent company of Facebook, which owns the social media network and other services, such as WhatsApp and Instagram, may soon have a new name. The looming rebranding was reported by The Verge this week. The outlet speculates that the corporation wants to have a name that includes the word ‘Horizon,’ since this is how Facebook’s under-development virtual reality (VR) platform is branded.

While the Silicon Valley behemoth is yet to confirm the report, yet alone disclose its new name if there indeed is one, there has been no shortage of suggestions hurled their way – including one from Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey.

He responded to a tweet explaining the origin of the word ‘metaverse’ in a science fiction book, saying author Neal Stephenson was right in his prediction that a virtual world owned by private companies would be “a dystopian corporate dictatorship.” He then tweeted: “Central Intelligence Corporation,” apparently suggesting it would be a good name for Zuckerberg’s brainchild.

The ‘metaverse’ has been hyped up by Zuckerberg for several months now. His company even announced its intention to hire over the next five years around 10,000 people in the EU to work on it. What exactly this metaverse would look like is unclear, but presumably it would be a global VR platform.

Dorsey was not the only one to dunk on Facebook over its purported rebranding strategy. Some thought Zuckerberg wouldn’t need to look further than the names of fictional evil corporations among science fiction franchises – or just go for “Evil.corp.”

Businesses that force employers to get the coronavirus vaccine as a condition of employment should be held liable for adverse reactions, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) said Thursday after announcing he is calling the legislature back for a special session to protect people’s jobs and livelihoods from intrusive vaccine mandates.

“We will be calling the legislature back for a special session,” DeSantis announced Thursday during a press conference in Pinellas County.

“We want to make sure that individuals in Florida have their livelihoods and their jobs protected, and I think this is something — when we were doing the last legislative session, it would have never occurred to me that we would be in the situation that we are with some of the insanity that’s reigning down right now,” he said, explaining that his administration initially provided some of the strongest coronavirus liability protections for businesses, as that remained a primary concern last year.

“We didn’t think businesses should be getting sued over this, and so, we provide probably the strongest COVID liability protection … very early on and we were glad to do it,” he said.

“But I must say … to now see some of those same businesses who were complaining about potential liability turn around and want to fire employees over these injections, I kind of feel like they’re stabbing us in the back after we were standing up for them,” he said, briefly detailing some of the protections the legislature will pursue.

“We’re going to be pursuing a number of protections for employees. First of all, if you think about it, if anyone has been forced to do an injection and has an adverse reaction, that business should be liable for that–any damages. You have to do because that’s on them,” he said:

It wasn’t an individual choice. I also think this COVID liability protection that was given, the minute you go and start mandating that, liability protections is going to go by the wayside for each individual business that make the decision to fire people or to do any of that, and I know some of them have already done that. So we’re going to make sure we beef that up.

Nyet Coming: Vladimir Putin to Snub Boris Johnson’s Big Climate Summit

In another blow to Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s climate summit, Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced that he will not attend the meeting.

Following reports that Chinese dictator Xi Jinping will likely not be travelling to Glasgow next month to attend the United Nations’ COP26 climate summit, the Kremlin said on Wednesday that Mr Putin will also skip the event.

Without providing an explanation on why the Russian leader will not attend, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said simply per the BBC: “Unfortunately, Putin will not fly to Glasgow.”

The spokesmen went on to claim that despite this, climate change is one of Russia’s “most important priorities” in terms of foreign policy, perhaps indicating it was a problem Russia expected other nations to solve. It is thought that Mr Putin may appear virtually at COP26.

Commenting on the announcement, a spokesman for Boris Johnson said that the PM had previously stressed the importance of attending the summit to other leaders “given this is a very critical moment in terms of tackling climate change”.

The summit has been seen as a launching point for Johnson’s Great Reset-style green vision and to demonstrate the ability of a ‘Global Britain’ to enact change upon the world following the UK’s departure from the European Union.

With Mr Putin — who represents the fourth-largest emitter of carbon dioxide — declining the invitation and the leader of the world’s top polluter, Xi Jinping of China, most likely skipping the meeting as well, it is dubious as to how effective the summit will be in terms of enacting any meaningful changes.

Johnson’s summit will be graced by U.S. President Joe Biden, who will travel to Glasgow with a large delegation, and will be joined by former President Barack Obama.

Despite early non-commital, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison is also set to attend.

Delta and TSA Launch New Biometric “Digital Identity Experience” at Atlanta Hub

The airline is implementing a “digital identity experience” at its hub in Atlanta, offering customers with TSA PreCheck and a Delta SkyMiles number the chance to pass through security and board their flight without having to pull out a boarding pass or their ID.

Delta started trialing the technology for international travel more than five years ago and it was first rolled out in Detroit earlier this year for domestic flights. In 2018, the airline launched the first fully biometric terminal in Atlanta.

“The exclusive expansion of digital identity moves Delta one step closer to achieving our vision of creating a more personalized and fully connected travel journey,” Byron Merritt, Delta’s vice president of brand experience design, said in a statement. “Our goal in turning pivotal moments like security and check-in into seamless experiences is to give time and focus back to the moments customers enjoy. Innovations like digital identity are implemented with the intention to transform the cohesive travel experience into a journey that our customers can truly look forward to.”

Beyond seamlessly getting through security checkpoints, facial recognition technology can also be used to check a bag.

To utilize the technology, customers must store their passport information and either TSA PreCheck or Global Entry Known Traveler Number in their SkyMiles profile in Delta’s app and then opt-in at check-in. When customers go to pass through security, their image is taken, encrypted, and sent to U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s facial biometric matching service, according to the airline.

Delta said participating in the program is voluntary and the airline does not save or store any biometric data.

US Orthodox rabbis accused of secretly being Evangelical Christians - report

The two rabbis reportedly performed marriages and divorces, wrote Torah scrolls and even officiated Orthodox conversions.

Accusations have been leveled against a father and son in the United States who practice as Orthodox rabbis of secretly being Evangelical Christians, the Jewish Chronicle reported on Thursday.

The father and son in question, Michael and Calev Isaacson, have worked as rabbis in Orthodox Jewish communities throughout the United States. These include Portland, Milwaukee, Houston, and, currently, Phoenix. While in Houston, from 2014-2016, Michael reportedly worked as a supervisor for the local kashrut association, JC reported.

The accusations against them were leveled by Beynenyu, an Israel-based anti-missionary organization, who claim that they have relocated whenever the suspicions of the local rabbis were aroused, according to JC.

UKRAINE BUYS BRITISH MISSILES: A NEW ROUND OF ESCALATION?

On October 21, The Times, reported, citing a Ukrainian source, that Britain is in talks with the Ukrainian authorities on the sale of weapons to Ukraine, including Brimstone missiles. If the parties reach an agreement, it will be the first sale of missiles to Kiev by the UK.

Brimstone is a high-tech air-to-ground missile developed and produced by the MBDA international consortium for the RAF. They are guided by millimetric wave radar and semi-active laser and have a multi-effect, tandem-shaped warhead with adaptive fuzing. It is planned that the missiles will be the first delivered as ship-based weapon systems, and the possibility of their installation on aircraft is also considered. The cost of one missile is about £ 100,000.

Given the unstable situation in Ukraine, the prospect of supplying high-tech offensive weapons is rather alarming news. Rep. Matt Gaetz stated on the House floor that someone had threatened to kill him and the Department of Justice (DOJ) won’t arrest the man, despite the Capitol Police recommending they do so.

“I thank the gentleman for yielding because I think someone may be trying to kill me. And if they are successful, I would like my constituents and my family to know who stopped their arrest,” Gaetz declared.

He went on to say he was sent a death threat by someone on Twitter calling themselves @CIABOBISATYOURDOOR.

Gaetz read the threat aloud: “‘Lookie here pal. I lived in Portland. Portland has ordered a hit on you. I accepted the contract. Have a good day.'”

The supposed button-man reportedly made his way to Washington, D.C. That’s when the Capitol Police suggested he should be arrested, but the DOJ decided otherwise.

“And on the eve of the attorney general testifying before the Judiciary Committee tomorrow, it is just yet another example of the Department of Justice having a double standard,” Gaetz stated further. “If my name weren’t Gaetz, if it were Omar or Tlaib, you bet this person would have been arrested because that’s what the Capitol Police recommended. But the Department of Justice doesn’t seem to care so much when it’s Republicans.”
