its a western, so SAA (single action arms) otherwise known as six-guns. and while i don't know exactly how a CERTIFIED propman would make it look accurate for use in the 'movies' these would most likely be similar to a re-inactors black powder arm where they use cap and powder but no ball. if it was a cartridge gun, likely wax would be used, it would still be dangerous to be in front of the report. something is totally fucky with this 'story' … it was a loaded/hot 'gun'

THIS IS A CAP AND BALL GUN… some idiot would have had to load a ball into it to fire, its not a cartridge gun. you load powder, a wad then press in a ball, add a cap and you have a 'gun' without the ball (the projectile) it would only fire smoke like a reinactor. (unless it was like Brandon Lee and a SQUIB was already in the barrel)
