Despite being—at least in material terms—among the most fortunate people who have ever walked the earth, they are very scared. And they want you to be very frightened too.

 

Indeed, many of them see your refusal to be as frightened as they are about life’s inevitable risks as a grave problem which entitles them and their often powerful and influential fellow travelers to recur to all manner of authoritarian practices to insure that you adhere to their increasingly neurotic view of reality.

Sigi. I got warm feelz from all the 60's european cars. Nice plot twist too, not to mention the essence of the story ends up being true these many years since. Given the top secret FBI and CIA Nazi files and ongoing hunt for them at the time the book was written, it kind of reminds of me of how Clancy would later be writing books about cold war endeavors that turned out to be so close to the truth.

Yes it illuminates for me what Q has said too, i.e. the 4th reich is real and the ideals never died. They just pushed them below the surface and have worked behind the scenes ever since. I view the Jar Babies as direct evidence of this, among other things.
