Reagan (whose campaign used Stefan Halper against the incumbent Jimmy Carter) was the first really bad president, well except for LBJ. Reagan did an amnesty, presided over the era of LBO's which gutted our great corporations and the beginning of the idea that Japan was our superior in almost every way (!?), saw the end of the Savings and Loans, and colluded with the mullahs in Iran in the October Surprise, also a conspiracy against the incumbent president.

This problem isn't specific to one party.

There were a lot of supposedly patriotic people representing the Tea Party who persisted in saying stupid things even after the errors were pointed out.

One of them is Ron Paul. He wanted to audit the Fed, that was his big thing. I pointed out to Congressman Paul that the Fed is already audited every year. Every year a full audit opinion for the Board of Governors and each of the 12 Reserve Banks is posted on the Board of Governors. Deloitte used to be the auditor. I think it recently switched to KPMG. I gave him a link to where the audit opinions were posted.

He didn't respond to me, but after that the location where the audit opinions are posted started moving around and became even harder to find – but they're still there.
