Well, it seems to me, that anyone who supplies kids, isn't too worried about who they supply them to, nor what they are being used for, as long as they get paid. Multiple possible reasons to buy them. Supplier doesn't really care which reason the buyer wants them for.

a vax, is a weakened or killed version of whatever you are trying to treat. So, in essence, you inject the bug into you, but its weak or killed. It allows your body the chance to produce the needed antibodies to fight off the bug. Once your body knows how to produce a certain antibody, it generally remembers how to make it if it comes across it again. It's usually only the FIRST exposure to a bug that causes the most trouble, if it has time to replicate before your body figures out the receptor points.

The gold shirts are worn by the command division, which includes Captain Kirk, Lieutenant Sulu, and Pavel Chekov. Red uniforms belong to the engineering/communications division, including chief engineer Scotty and communications officer Uhura.
