The Black Swan is a water bird that originated in Australia, Tasmania, and New Zealand, where they build their nest in swampy regions. This particular bird is somewhat of a White Elephant symbolically and scientifically. Until the late 1600s, everyone thought it was simply a myth, and that all Swans were white.
