Gladys Berejiklian can't remember why she supported grant proposal in secret boyfriend's electorate
Former NSW premier Gladys Berejiklian has told the corruption watchdog she can't remember why she ignored treasury advice and supported a multi-million-dollar grant proposal in her secret boyfriend's electorate.
Key points:
Gladys Berejiklian could offer only "speculation" about her reasons for supporting the grant
The former premier was met by a large media scrum when she arrived for the hearing
Ms Berejiklian will also be giving evidence to the inquiry on Monday
Ms Berejiklian today began her evidence at the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) as it investigates whether she breached public trust due to the undeclared relationship with the disgraced Wagga Wagga MP Daryl Maguire.
One project at the centre of the investigation is a $5.5 million grant for the Australian Clay Target Association, which went before a cabinet committee Ms Berejiklian chaired as then-treasurer in December 2016.
At that time, treasury advice was to not support the project because a net benefit to the state had not been adequately demonstrated.
