Precedent of charging Bolsonaro with ‘crimes against humanity’ threatens leaders that deviate from the western Covid narrative -

By recommending charges of “crimes against humanity” against Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro over the way he handled the pandemic, a senate panel there is setting a dangerous and irrational precedent for the world.

The Brazilian high chamber commission has recommended nine criminal charges in total against President Jair Bolsonaro over his handling of the Covid pandemic, including “charlatanism,” “prevarication,” and “incitement to crime.”

From the outset, Bolsonaro has resisted liberticidal and economically suicidal measures adopted by western nations. Relative to its population, it doesn’t seem that Brazil was ultimately much more or less spared from Covid than other nations, regardless of the machinations, rhetoric, and hand waving in which others chose to engage contrary to the leader nicknamed the “Trump of the Tropics.”

Brazil’s peak of 4,249 deaths in a single day in April 2021 isn’t wildly disproportionate, for example, to France’s 987 Covid-labeled fatalities registered in a single day in April 2020, since the population of Brazil is about three times that of France. It’s also worth noting that the waves ebb and flow at different stages in different parts of the world and that a snapshot of any given moment doesn’t capture the full story.

Contrary to most other western leaders, Bolsonaro obviously wasn’t a believer in lockdowns as a solution to curtailing the virus and, after witnessing the disaster caused early on by lockdowns in places like New York state, can you really blame him? As we later learned, Governor Andrew Cuomo was accused of underreporting Covid-related nursing-home deaths in the wake of filling them with 9,056 “recovering” Covid patients early in the pandemic, according to an Associated Press report.

"Thank You Federal Reserve": Hilton CEO Says Company Is Hedged Against Inflation Because Room Rates Reset Every Night

Not everybody is feeling the "sting" of inflation. In fact, a few business owners are happy about it.

Take, for instance, Hilton Hotels, where the room rates reset every single night. It's a luxury that most stores and business owners don't have: the ability to change prices daily. Hilton can constantly update (raise) its prices on a day-by-day basis, making it easy to keep up with our totally normal, totally in-control inflation.

In fact, Hilton's CEO took to Bloomberg to thank the Fed for the job they're doing and explain how his business is hedged against inflation.

Chief Executive Officer Christopher Nassetta said: “We can reprice our product every second of every day. We’re a very good hedge in that way to inflation and we’re being very thoughtful about how we’re pricing our product.”

US Gen. Says China's Done 'Hundreds' of Hypersonic Weapon Tests While DoD is 'Bureaucratic' - Report

Gen. Hyten's remarks come a week after a failed US hypersonic test and as tensions between the US and China over Taiwan, which the latter considers as an integral part of its territory, remain high, as well as recent reports of China allegedly conducting a successful test of a new potentially nuclear hypersonic missile in August.

Following China's purported test of a hypersonic missile, the second most senior US general stated that China's military growth is "stunning," while US development is hampered by "brutal" bureaucracy, CNN reported on Thursday.

According to the report, General John Hyten, the outgoing Vice Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, backed Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin's assessment of China as a "pacing threat," while describing Russia as the greatest immediate concern.

"Calling China a pacing threat is a useful term because the pace at which China is moving is stunning," Hyten is quoted in the report as telling reporters at a Defense Writers Group roundtable. "The pace they're moving and the trajectory they're on will surpass Russia and the United States if we don't do something to change it. It will happen. So I think we have to do something."

He echoed his immediate superior, Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Mark Milley, in expressing alarm over the recently reported Chinese hypersonic test, which Milley described as "very close" to what he calls a "Sputnik moment," apparently referring to the fact that the USSR was the first in the world to launch an artificial satellite, taking first place in the space race, which came as a complete surprise to the US.

"It's not just the United States but the United States and our allies because that's the thing that really changes the game," Hyten added. "If it's the United States only, it's going to be problematic in five years. But if it's the United States and our allies I think we can be good for a while."

The development of hypersonic weapons, according to Hyten, exemplifies the vast differences between the US and China's approaches. In the last five years, he reportedly claimed, the US has conducted nine hypersonic tests, whereas the "Chinese have done hundreds."

"Single digits versus hundreds is not a good place," Hyten noted. "Now it doesn't mean that we're not moving fast in the development process of hypersonics, what it does tell you is that our approach to development is fundamentally different."

Explicitly, the general slammed the US approach to failed new weapons tests, discussing last week's failed hypersonic missile test by the US military, which was cut short entirely after a rocket booster designed to accelerate a glide vehicle to hypersonic speeds failed.

‘Another nail in the coffin of democracy’: Tulsi Gabbard slams Biden administration’s ‘crusade’ against Julian Assange

Former Hawaii congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard has called out the “Biden-Garland administration” for its “vindictive retaliatory crusade against Julian Assange,” warning it was a slippery slope to the demise of American democracy.

“If they succeed in [extraditing Assange], this will be yet another nail in the coffin of democracy here in our country and around the world,” Gabbard warned in a video posted to social media on Thursday.

The Democratic representative slammed what she referred to as the “increasingly authoritarian Biden-Garland administration,” dodging any mention of Vice President Kamala Harris in favor of Attorney General Merrick Garland.

Gabbard’s dislike of the VP is well known and her debate-stage takedown of Harris’ controversial record as attorney general of California is pointed to by some as the moment the senator's own presidential campaign went up in flames.

In its continued persecution of Assange, Gabbard declared, the Biden administration was “doubling down on its crusade against our constitutionally protected rights,” specifically those protected by the First Amendment: freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, and freedom of the press.

The clip came just a day after prosecutors issued a series of “binding” assurances aimed at defusing concerns over the WikiLeaks publisher’s mental health were he to end up in a US prison. Assange’s attorneys have said they fear he might commit suicide if extradited to the US, where he faces a sentence of up to 175 years in jail on charges related to obtaining and publishing classified government and military documents.

A group of civil-liberties campaigners co-signed a letter earlier this month urging Garland to drop the charges against Assange as the US’ efforts to extradite him continue. While UK judge Vanessa Baraitser ruled in January that the publisher could not be extradited due to concerns regarding his mental health, Washington on Wednesday put forth a number of conditions apparently aimed at assuaging such concerns.

Wisconsin Elections Commission Holds Emergency Meeting After Racine County Sheriff’s Dept. Accuses WEC of Class I Felony Fraud in Nursing Home Scandal

The Racine County Sheriff’s Office announced during their press conference on Thursday that they are submitting their investigation to the Racine District Attorney’s office following their hearing today.

The Wisconsin Election Commission (WEC) violated state law in a statewide nursing home voting scam. The WEC did not follow the law.

The Wisconsin Election Commission took advantage of impaired seniors. The Racine Sheriffs believe this crime occurred in all 72 counties.

The Racine County Sheriff’s Department believes the WEC committed a Class I Felony and numerous misdemeanors by abusing impaired seniors to get their votes.

Following the Racine Sheriff’s press conference the Wisconsin Elections Commission announced an emergency meeting on Thursday night.

The Journal Times reported:

The Wisconsin Elections Commission is planning an emergency meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, about seven hours after the Racine County Sheriff’s Office began detailing allegations of alleged election fraud at a Mount Pleasant nursing home.

The RCSO alleged that fraud was committed at Ridgewood Care Center in Mount Pleasant, where eight people who had lost significant cognitive ability still cast ballots that were allegedly filled out by staff, because of policies the WEC approved that the RCSO alleges broke state election law.

The WEC has maintained that the changes it approved during the COVID-19 pandemic were OK, primarily regarding how Special Voting Deputies were no longer required to go into nursing homes to help people who wanted to vote cast ballots while also preventing fraudulent ballots from being cast; and how staff members of the nursing home assisted residents in filling out ballots, which is against state law.

Assembly Speaker Robin Vos, R-Rochester, called for WEC Administrator Meagan Wolfe to resign following the RCSO’s allegations.

Mayorkas carves out sweeping range of 'protected areas' off-limits to immigration enforcement

Biden DHS secretary previously ordered ICE to cease arresting those who entered the U.S. illegally on the basis of that offense alone, despite statutory law defining the offense as a crime.

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas issued new guidance Thursday fencing off a sweeping range of "protected areas" where illegal aliens can no longer be arrested.

Under the directive, enforcement actions — whether an arrest, search, service of a subpoena, or other action — will be suspended "effective immediately" within a vast array of new sanctuaries including, but not limited to:

Schools, including pre-schools, primary and secondary schools, vocational or trade schools, and colleges and universities.

Medical or mental healthcare facilities, like hospitals, doctors' offices, health clinics, vaccination or testing sites, urgent care centers, sites that serve pregnant individuals, or community health centers.

Houses of worship or religious studies and places where children gather, like playgrounds, recreation centers, childcare centers, before- or after-school care centers, foster care facilities, group homes for children, or school bus stops.

Social services establishments, like crisis centers, domestic violence shelters, victims' services centers, child advocacy centers, supervised visitation centers, family justice centers, community-based organizations, facilities that serve the disabled, homeless shelters, drug or alcohol counseling and treatment facilities, or food banks or other establishments that distribute food or other essentials of life to people in need.

Places where disaster or emergency response and relief are provided, including along evacuation routes, where shelter or emergency supplies, food, or water are being distributed, or registration for disaster-related assistance or family reunification is underway.

Places where funerals or other religious or civil ceremonies or observances occur, as well as ongoing parades, demonstrations, or rallies.

"When we conduct an enforcement action — whether it is an arrest, search, service of a subpoena, or other action — we need to consider many factors, including the location in which we are conducting the action and its impact on other people and broader societal interests," Mayorkas explains in the memo. "For example, if we take an action at an emergency shelter, it is possible that noncitizens, including children, will be hesitant to visit the shelter and receive needed food and water, urgent medical attention, or other humanitarian care."

To the extent possible, ICE agents are to avoid operating near a protected area, Mayorkas directs.

'White People, You Are The Problem': AT&T's Internal 'Racial Reeducation Program' Leaked

"AT&T Corporation has created a racial reeducation program that promotes the idea that 'American racism is a uniquely white trait' and boosts left-wing causes such as 'reparations,' 'defund police,' and 'trans activism,'" Christopher Rufo reports.

From City Journal:

I have obtained a cache of internal documents about the company's initiative, called Listen Understand Act, which is based on the core principles of critical race theory, including "intersectionality," "systemic racism," "white privilege," and "white fragility." CEO John Stankey launched the program last year and, subsequently, has told employees that private corporations such as AT&T have an "obligation to engage on this issue of racial injustice" and push for "systemic reforms in police departments across the country."

According to a senior employee, who agreed to speak on condition of anonymity, managers at AT&T are now assessed annually on diversity issues, with mandatory participation in programs such as discussion groups, book clubs, mentorship programs, and race reeducation exercises. White employees, the source said, are tacitly expected to confess their complicity in "white privilege" and "systemic racism," or they will be penalized in their performance reviews. As part of the overall initiative, employees are asked to sign a loyalty pledge to "keep pushing for change," with suggested "intentions" such as "reading more about systemic racism" and "challenging others' language that is hateful." "If you don't do it," the senior employee says, "you're [considered] a racist." AT&T did not respond when asked for comment.

On the first page of AT&T's Listen Understand Act internal portal, the company encourages employees to study a resource called "White America, if you want to know who's responsible for racism, look in the mirror." The article claims that the United States is a "racist society" and lays out its thesis plainly: "White people, you are the problem. Regardless of how much you say you detest racism, you are the sole reason it has flourished for centuries." The author, Dahleen Glanton, writes that "American racism is a uniquely white trait" and that "Black people cannot be racist." White women, she claims, "have been telling lies on black men since they were first brought to America in chains," and, along with their white male counterparts, "enjoy the opportunities and privileges that white supremacy affords [them]."

Israel to Attack Iran? Washington Gives the Green Light to the ‘Military Option’

Some might recall candidate Joe Biden’s pledge to work to rejoin the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) which was a multilateral agreement intended to limit Iran’s ability to develop a nuclear weapon. The JCPOA was signed by President Barack Obama in 2015, when Biden was Vice President, and was considered one of the only foreign policy successes of his eight years in office. Other signatories to it were Britain, China, Germany, France, and Russia and it was endorsed by the United Nations. The agreement included unannounced inspections of Iranian nuclear facilities by the IAEA and, by all accounts, it was working and was a non-proliferation success story. In return for its cooperation Iran was to receive its considerable assets frozen in banks in the United States and was also to be relieved of the sanctions that had been placed on it by Washington and other governments.

The JCPOA crashed and burned in 2018 when President Donald Trump ordered U.S. withdrawal from the agreement, claiming that Iran was cheating and would surely move to develop a nuclear weapon as soon as the first phase of the agreement was completed. Trump, whose ignorance on Iran and other international issues was profound, had surrounded himself with a totally Zionist foreign policy team, including members of his own family, and had bought fully into the arguments being made by Israel as well as by Israel Lobby predominantly Jewish groups to include the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD) and the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). Trump’s time in office was spent pandering to Israel in every conceivable way, to include recognizing Jerusalem as the country’s capital, granting Israel the green light for creating and expanding illegal settlements on the West Bank and recognizing the occupied Syrian Golan Heights as part of Israel.

Given Trump’s record, most particularly the senseless and against-American-interests abandonment of JCPOA, it almost seemed a breath of fresh air to hear Biden’s fractured English as he committed his administration to doing what he could to rejoin the other countries who were still trying to make the agreement work. After Biden was actually elected, more or less, he and his Secretary of State Tony Blinken clarified what the U.S. would seek to do to “fix” the agreement by making it stronger in some key areas that had not been part of the original document.

Iran for its part insisted that the agreement did not need any additional caveats and should be a return to the status quo ante, particularly when Blinken and his team made clear that they were thinking of a ban on Iranian ballistic missile development as well as negotiations to end Tehran’s alleged “interference” in the politics of the region. The interference presumably referred to Iranian support of the Palestinians as well as its role in Syria and Yemen, all of which had earned the hostility of American “friends” Israel and Saudi Arabia.
