The typical rocks produced by lavas are very low denisty. The higher density formations don't make it out of the cone and form the caldera (rhyolites). Lava forms basaltic rocks and pumice. Both these rock forms are low-density materials, making them very water-absorbent AND water reduced (think lava sand). The chances of any kind of major event coming from La Palma are minute. The absorbency of the rocks would greatly soften the impact even if the ENTIRE island fell away into the ocean. This is well known among geologists. Pic Related = La Palma Lava meets the ocean.
