Basically someone makes a move and your answering move has to directly counter that move.

 

Would be similar to, "Forcing your hand", in English.

 

It's hard to translate literally, because it carries a lot of connotations, so the word is just carried over to English.

 

Schadenfreude is like that, too. It's easier to use the original German than use four or five words to translate the entire connotation. Once you've seen it's usage enough times you get the concept behind the word.
