Q was quoting from the text of the NIV published in 1984; not from the most recent revision of that translation.

That version still retained some distinctive vocabulary from the King James in the two passages cited, specifically “saints” in referring to the Christian community, and “rude” in 1Cor 13:5.

Ephesians 6:12 King James Version (KJV)

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

You haven’t met any true Christians then, anon. True Christianity is not a religion, but a journey on a steep and narrow way where, with God’s personal empowerment, the individual in community overcomes the power of sin and death. It is the process of actualizing in human lives the cosmic victory won by Jesus Christ through his death and resurrection over sin, death, and satan. It is about freedom, not enslavement.
