Republican candidate John Lujan took the Texas House District 118 seat, effectively flipping the historically Democrat leaning district.Democratic candidate Frank Ramirez led early and absentee voting totals, but couldn't maintain that momentum. Lujan picked up 2,447 Election Day votes for a total of 5,924, beating out Ramirez by 286 votes.

Both candidates were unavailable for comment.

The runoff saw a higher turnout with 11 percent of the total registered voters in HD 118. The September special election pulled only 6 percent of total voters.

This is Lujan's second win for HD 118 in a runoff election. He won the seat against Tomas Uresti in a special runoff election in 2015 to complete a remaining term only to lose it in 2016. The seat will be up for election in 2022 and Lujan will will have to run in the primary.

Also on the ballot yesterday were eight state constitutional amendments and bond elections in four school districts. Out of those school bonds, Southside ISD's $52 million bond failed to pass by a large margin.

There were also several general and special elections in San Antonio-area cities and in the county.
