Ontario won't mandate COVID-19 vaccines for hospital workers
Premier Doug Ford has announced he will not mandate COVID-19 vaccines for hospital workers, saying he's "not prepared to jeopardize the delivery of care to millions of Ontarians." …
"British Columbia has had to cancel surgeries and diagnostic tests because of the sudden termination of more than 3,000 health care workers after implementing a vaccine mandate,” Ford said. "Quebec has now abandoned theirs altogether because of the significant risk an abrupt loss of thousands of health care workers poses to delivering critical services."
In a response to Ford's letter, released by Ontario's Science Advisory Table last month, the doctors argue that such a mandate "can enhance safety and reduce the risk of staffing disruptions due to COVID-19."
In his letter, Ford said that approximately 15 per cent of Ontario's health-care workers are believed to be unvaccinated.
Members of the science table said that the likelihood of unvaccinated workers contracting COVID-19 and being forced to miss significant time could have a bigger impact on human resources, given research suggesting that only a "small" number of workers will "actually leave the workforce to avoid vaccination."
