This was set up by [two very important people to remember]: the Mayor of Beijing, [WANG QISHAN]…and the Premier of China, [WEN JIABAO]. These two individuals established this UBS Securities and gave $400 million – they originally gave $200 million to create this in 2014, and they didn’t put any money into it again until [October 8th] of this year [2020], in which they put in $400 million into Dominion and then, the rest is history.

Dong Hong, a former vice ministerial-level official of the central inspection team, was under investigation on suspicion of "serious disciplinary violations

Dong, 66, is the longtime influential secretary figure to Vice President [Wang Qishan], 72, President Xi Jinping's right-hand man.

[Dong]: When he was young, he served as a secretary to Bo Yibo, one of the "Eight Elders" of the party and the father of disgraced former top Chongqing official Bo Xilai.

When Xi became China's top leader in 2012, [Wang] was selected as a member of the party's Politburo Standing Committee, the country's top decision-making body, as well as head of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection.

There was one precursor to Dong Hong's downfall. The announcement of the investigation came 10 days after a property tycoon [Ren Zhiqiang] was sentenced to [18] years in jail.

The short time span between Ren's sentencing and the announcement of Dong's investigation make it a good bet that something is happening inside the party.

Desmond Shum’s new memoir “Red Roulette” has raised a flurry of interest among scholars because of the rarity of insiders going public with details about China’s political royalty. His ex-wife, [Whitney Duan], had been a key figure in a 2012 New York Times investigation into the [Wen family] wealth, as she claimed responsibility for assets listed under Wen’s relatives’ names.

The tone changed after Xi Jinping came to power in 2012. Xi instituted a sweeping crackdown on both corruption and his political rivals, which tamped down some of the fervor for deals and conspicuous consumption.

Then in 2017, Duan was swept up in the crackdown and detained, although it’s still unclear for what cause and whether she has been formally charged.

Shum believes Duan’s 11th-hour reappearance to demand a halt to the publication may have been orchestrated by the authorities detaining her. Whatever the motivation, it appears to have only goosed sales. “Red Roulette” was at No. 75 on Amazon’s bestsellers’ list on Thursday.

Countering Chinese strategy calls for using Sun Tzu against Beijing.

For example the general enshrined moral influence to bring the people in line with their leaders’ vision.

That can be undermined through an exposé of the leaders’ real lives versus the fable and other discrepancies between public posturing and private actuality.

In order to disintegrate Chinese moral influence, we must reveal its leaders’ true activities as the New York Times did in October 2012 when it reported that Wen Jiabao’s relatives had tremendous financial assets in the United States.
