The city council of Oroville, California, declared itself a “constitutional republic” on Tuesday, citing Governor Gavin Newsom’s coronavirus health regulations as the reason.
The resolution, which passed by a 6-1 vote, continues Oroville’s battle with the state government over the coronavirus restrictions.
According to The Guardian, “Last year, Oroville refused to enforce state requirements prohibiting indoor dining. Butte county, where Oroville is located, declined to recommend a mask mandate earlier this fall.”
Oroville’s population is roughly 20,000, and the city is 90 miles outside of the state capital, Sacramento.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) on Thursday was able to tour D.C. jail facilities, including the section that’s holding people accused of committing crimes in and around the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.
Article by Zachary Stieber from our premium news partners at The Epoch Times.
The tour lasted over three hours, according to Greene.
“I’ve never seen human suffering like I witnessed last night,” she wrote on Twitter.
Greene said she witnessed some inmates engaged in continuing education classes but also saw others she described as “truly suffering from long stays in solitary confinement for ‘bad behavior.’”
The tour concluded with the section of the D.C. jail system holding Jan. 6 defendants.
Greene said on Steve Bannon’s “War Room” that it was hard to detail what it was like when she, colleagues, and staff members entered the section.
“It was like they were prisoners of war. They had lost hope. They felt forgotten. They said that some of their family members thought they’re dead. They’re not dead. They’re there. And they are being treated horribly.” she said.
Greene is alleging the men were suffering from “virtually no medical care” and “very poor food quality.”
Greene and her staff members were putting together a report about what they saw.
“I am committed to ending this political war and seeing that our justice system is never used against Americans as a political weapon ever again. I am also beginning a plan for real prison reform. Our nation is broken and our people are divided. It’s time to fix it,” she said.

The Biden administration in just the past year alone stockpiled the records of more than 54 million U.S. gun owners and is poised to drastically alter gun regulations to ensure that information on Americans who own firearms ultimately ends up in the federal government's hands, according to internal Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) documents obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.
The ATF in fiscal year 2021 processed 54.7 million out-of-business records, according to an internal ATF document obtained by the Gun Owners of America, a firearms advocacy group, and provided exclusively to the Free Beacon. When a licensed gun store goes out of business, its private records detailing gun transactions become ATF property and are stored at a federal site in West Virginia. This practice allows the federal government to stockpile scores of gun records and has drawn outrage from gun advocacy groups that say the government is using this information to create a national database of gun owners—which has long been prohibited under U.S. law.

Wealthy Democratic Gov. Jared Polis of Colorado did not pay income taxes for a number of years, despite the fact that he was once adamant that former President Donald Trump needed to release his tax returns, according to a report.
The outlet ProPublica released a report on Thursday that highlighted the apparent hypocrisy when poring over financial documents it obtained from wealthy lawmakers and public officials.
Among those who used loopholes to avoid paying taxes was Polis, who while in Congress in 2017 was vocal in claiming that Trump’s decision to keep his tax documents private was a violation of transparency.
The report noted that as a member of the House of Representatives, Polis accused Trump of having “something to hide,” and he even attempted to pass a resolution to force Trump to disclose his financials.
But things changed for Polis the next year when he launched his gubernatorial campaign in the Centennial State. Polis, who is worth a reported nine figures, decided against releasing his own tax returns when facing off against Republican Walker Stapleton, the then-state Treasurer.
That might be because Polis avoided paying federal income taxes for a number of years prior, and when he did pay, he paid a lower rate than a middle-class worker would have, according to the report.
“Despite a net worth estimated to be in the hundreds of millions, Polis paid nothing in federal income taxes in 2013, 2014 and 2015. From 2010 to 2018, his overall rate was just 8.2% — less than half of the 19% paid by a worker making $45,000 in 2018,” ProPublica reported after having obtained the tax forms of some of the country’s wealthiest public servants.
