Equipment failure at Sky Harbor leaves APS worker hurt, spurs power outage impacting Southwest, American flights

Shortly after 8 a.m., Arizona Public Service notified the airport about a partial power outage that affected systems in several terminals, according to Eric Averts, spokesman for Sky Harbor.

Terminal 3 power has been restored as of 9 a.m. "There continues to be significant impacts to Terminal 4," Averts said in an email to The Republic.

The two busiest airlines, Southwest and American, continue to have flight complications.

Arizona Public Service Company workers were on site conducting maintenance at the airport when a piece of electrical equipment failed. The equipment failure caused outage in both terminals 3 and 4 in addition to injuring a worker.

The worker faced injuries that were not life-threatening, but was transported to the hospital for treatment, according to APS.
