The U.S. has been the undisputed top producer of petroleum and natural gas hydrocarbons for the last six years, finishing 2017 with production levels about double those of Saudi Arabia.

American oil and gas hydrocarbon production hit a record high in 2017 at nearly 30 million barrels per day of oil equivalent, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA).

Danish minister calls Ramadan dangerous for society

Inger Stojberg, Denmark’s minister of immigration and integration said in a column for the BT tabloid, that Ramadan is “dangerous for all of us”. The minister of Denmark’s centre-right Liberal party advised Muslims to take time off work during the Ramadan fasting period.

Stojberg emphasised the safety effect with an example of a bus driver who didn’t drink or eat for more than 10 hours. “This can be dangerous for all of us,” she said.

“I want to call on Muslims to take leave from work during the month of Ramadan to avoid negative consequences for the rest of Danish society,” Stojberg advised.

California deputy attorney general charged with child porn

(Reuters) - A California deputy attorney general has been charged with possessing child pornography at his San Diego County home following a months-long investigation, according to court records and local media.

Raymond Liddy, 53, was arrested at his home in the resort city of Coronado, California, on Tuesday and accused of owning images that appeared to depict minors under age 12 engaging in sexual acts, court records showed.

Marseille shooting: Hooded men open fire with Kalashnikovs

HOODED gunmen have opened fire with automatic rifles, kalachnikovs, in Marseille, in south France – with one person reportedly injured.

The men opened fire on a group of young people not far from the cultural space known as ‘La Busserine’, local media Corse-Matin reports.

Three vehicles with the masked individuals arrived in the city’s district of Busserine at 5pm local time, France’s ACTU17 said.

Police exchanged fire with the shooters and officers have set up a cordon.

At this time it is unclear if any arrests have been made, but police are investigating.

Marseille’s Marines-Pompiers, the city’s fire and rescue service, is also at the scene.
