Customs and Border Protection Seizes Imports From Chinese Company Backed By Kerry Investments

CBP cites law that prohibits foreign imports produced through labor abuses

U.S. Customs and Border Protection last week seized imports from a Chinese company backed by an investment group in which climate czar John Kerry holds a $1 million stake.

Kerry and his wife are invested in Hillhouse China Value Fund L.P., part of the Hillhouse investment group that is a top shareholder in a Chinese solar panel company that works with companies known to be using forced labor. It was on that account that CBP seized the imports from LONGi Green Energy, citing a law that prohibits foreign imports produced through labor abuses.

The news could raise additional concerns about the Kerry family’s investment in Hillhouse China Value Fund L.P., which the climate envoy disclosed at the beginning of the year. Although Kerry divested from many of his energy-related holdings in March, the list of divestments did not include Hillhouse, according to a disclosure Kerry filed in March with the Office of Government Ethics. The investment has drawn scrutiny from Republican lawmakers and China experts, who accuse Kerry of downplaying and enabling China’s human rights abuses while trying to win concessions from Beijing on climate change.

The Hillhouse investment group, which is run by Zhang Lei, an adviser to the Chinese government, owns a 6 percent stake in LONGi. Hillhouse is also a top shareholder of YITU Technology, a company that was blacklisted by the U.S. Department of Commerce for allegedly aiding the Chinese government’s surveillance of Uyghurs.

Kerry's Hillhouse stake is through a trust in which his wife is the beneficiary. He stated in his disclosure that they are not involved in managing the investments.

LONGi, the White House, and CBP did not respond to request for comment.

LONGi Green Energy said its products were temporarily detained by CBP from Oct. 28 to Nov. 3, under a "Withhold Release Order," according to an announcement filed by its board of directors with the Shanghai Stock Exchange on Nov. 4.

Withhold Release Orders are intended to "prevent merchandise produced in whole or in part in a foreign country using forced labor from being imported into the United States," according to the CBP website.

LONGi’s board of directors sought to allay concerns over the seizure order, saying it impacted "a total of 40.31 MW of components exported to the United States" which "accounted for approximately 1.59 percent of export sales" to the United States last year.

"The U.S. Customs’ Temporary Detention Order (WRO) has not yet caused the company’s operations significant adverse effects," the board said. "The company will continue to monitor and evaluate the impact of the WRO on the company’s U.S. shipments."

'Propaganda': Experts rip CDC study claiming vax offers stronger protection than natural immunity

The new study contradicts a much larger Israeli study this summer.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention published an "early release" study last week that uses a highly curated population to purportedly show that mRNA-vaccinated people have a much lower rate of reinfection by COVID-19 than naturally immune people, contradicting a much larger Israeli study this summer.

The CDC study concludes: "All eligible persons should be vaccinated against COVID-19 as soon as possible, including unvaccinated persons previously infected with SARS-CoV-2."

The study analyzed "COVID-19–like illness hospitalizations among adults" across nine states from January through Sept. 2. Because public health authorities portrayed vaccination as the best way to avoid hospitalization, it's less likely that vaccinated people would seek hospitalization, thus hiding their breakthrough infections relative to the naturally immune.

Attorney Jenin Younes, whose New Civil Liberties Alliance (NCLA) files legal challenges against COVID vaccine mandates, tweeted that the study contradicts a meta-analysis touted by the CDC, which found "no significant difference" in protection between vaccination and natural immunity.

Immunologist Hooman Noorchashm, the medical expert for multiple NCLA challenges, called the study "another teleological piece of propaganda" by the CDC because it excludes the Johnson & Johnson vaccine and likely includes recovered people in the vaccinated group.

Harvard Medical School epidemiologist Martin Kulldorff tweeted that the study has a "major statistical flaw" — falsely portraying hospitalized respiratory patients as "representative of the population" — which renders the odds ratio "wrong."

Former New York Times journalist Alex Berenson argued the study "is meaningless gibberish that would never have been published if the agency did not face huge political pressure to get people vaccinated." It's not even clear enough naturally immune people were hospitalized to reach statistical significance, he said, noting there's no unadjusted odds ratio.

Garland: $6 Million in Ransomware Payments Seized, Man Charged Over Major Cyberattack

The Department of Justice (DOJ) has charged a suspect from Ukraine and a Russian national over a July ransomware attack against a U.S. company and also seized some $6 million in ransom payments, according to Attorney General Merrick Garland and FBI Director Chris Wray.

Yaroslav Vasinskyi, a Ukrainian national arrested in Poland last month, will face federal charges for deploying ransomware known as REvil, which has been linked to hacks that have cost companies millions of dollars, the DOJ said in a court filing on Monday. Vasinskyi carried out a ransomware attack over the Fourth of July weekend on Florida-based software firm Kaseya that infected up to 1,500 businesses around the world and the United States, according to the charges.

Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi survived an assassination attempt early Sunday morning after three drones targeted his residence, situated in the heavily fortified area of Baghdad known as the Green Zone. Iraq’s Joint Operations Command (JOC) is asking why the US military’s counter rocket, artillery and mortar (C-RAM) installations appeared to have been inoperable during Sunday morning’s attack on the prime minister’s residence.

“We are currently discussing the matter with the American side and officials from the US Embassy. This is an issue that experts should throw light on and explain,” JOC spokesman Maj. Gen. Tahsin al-Khafaji said, his remarks cited by Iran’s PressTV.

While operational, the C-RAM system sounds sirens to warn of potential incoming attacks, and fires off rapid-fire machineguns to shoot down hostile air targets. The system was installed and activated last year amid repeated strikes on the Green Zone by militia rocket artillery following the January 2020 US assassination of Qasem Soleimani, a senior Iranian anti-terror commander. After its installation, the system has been repeatedly used to protect Green Zone airspace. However, it has not always been accurate, with a volley of rockets launched into the Green Zone in February failing to activate the system, reportedly after it was projected that the rockets would not land within the diplomatic compound.

The “Astroworld” concert, where 8 people died and over 300 other concert-goers were injured during rapper Travis Scott’s performance, was like a satanic ritual, attendees of the concert claim.

Rittenhouse Witness Blows Case For Prosecution, Admits He Pointed Gun, Advanced First

A 'star' witness for the prosecution in the Kyle Rittenhouse trial just blew the entire case for the prosecution, after he admitted to pointing his own gun at Rittenhouse before the teen shot his bicep off.

"It wasn't until you pointed your gun at him, advanced on him, with your gun - now your hand's down, pointed at him - that he fired, right?" the defense asked witness Gaige Grosskreutz. To which he replied:

"Correct…"

Rittenhouse is charged with two counts of homicide and one count of attempted homicide, after the aspiring police officer shot two men and wounded a third on the night of Aug. 25, 2020, as BLM riots raged in the streets of Kenosha in response to a white-on-black police shooting.

As we noted last week, before the shooting began, Rittenhouse, 17 at the time, was had arrived in Kenosha in order to help keep order and protect businesses from looting and arson.

"People are getting inured, and our job is to protect this business, and part of my job is also to help people. If there’s somebody hurt, I’m running into harm’s way. That’s why I have my rifle, because I need to protect myself obviously. But I also have my med kit," Rittenhouse said in footage recorded before the incident.

During the course of the evening, protesters became increasingly violent against Rittenhouse and the group he was with - eventually chasing the teen down the street when protester Joseph Rosenbaum was shot dead in the parking lot of a used car dealership. Shortly thereafter, Rittenhouse could be seen defending himself on the ground from multiple attackers - when he fatally wounded another, and shot the bicep of protester Gaige Grosskreutz who had drawn a pistol and was in the process of aiming it at the teen.

HIV-positive Adelaide man Jadd William Brooker pleads guilty to 141 child offences

An Adelaide man has pleaded guilty to 141 child offences over alleged incidents spanning more than three years.

A South Australian man has pleaded guilty to more than 100 child offences.

Jadd William Brooker, 39, was slapped with 141 new charges over alleged incidents that happened between March 2017 and August 2020 in Glenelg East and other unknown addresses across the state.

His charges relate to communicating with a child to engage in sexual activity; distributing, producing and obtaining child exploitation material; sexually exploiting a child and maintaining a relationship with a child.

He entered guilty pleas to all 141 offences when he appeared via video link in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday.

During his court appearance the defendant entered his guilty pleas by submitting a signed document that was handed to Magistrate Simon Smart by lawyer Tim Clarke.

Usually, defendants enter their pleas after having each individual charge read aloud in the courtroom and the accused would verbally respond to each.

Given the large number of offences committed by Brooker, it was agreed that he could enter his pleas by signing the document.

Brooker has admitted 182 crimes in total.

Since the Glenelg East resident’s arrest last year, the number of charges laid against him have climbed.

He previously pleaded guilty to 41 similar charges against him that are due to be heard in the District Court.

Brooker is due to reappear in court in January.
