Power outage at Sky Harbor airport in Phoenix today.

Power restored after outage causes cancelations, delays at Phoenix Sky Harbor

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) – Power has been restored at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport after a power outage caused systems for both Terminals 3 and 4 to go down Monday around 8 a.m.

Power was fully restored to all systems around 2 p.m, according to a tweet by the TSA's Southwest Division. The TSA advised people to still check with their airlines before heading to the airport. Even though power has been restored, airport officials say delays are still expected into the evening.

APS provided the following statement after power was restored:

APS crews have restored power to Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport after replacing damaged equipment that disrupted service to Terminals 3 and 4. We are especially thankful to learn our employee who was injured while performing scheduled maintenance has been released from the hospital and is recovering at home. We’re all thinking of our APS team member.

This morning APS crews were performing maintenance on the electrical system that serves Sky Harbor in preparation for the upcoming busy travel season when a failure occurred in a piece of equipment called a switching cabinet. We’re looking into what caused that failure.

We apologize for the disruption to travelers and to airport and airlines staff who depend on reliable power to provide their essential services.
