William F. McSweeny: Retired from Occidental now. Appears active on the BOD of the Chevy Chase Trust, Bethesda

For many years McSweeny has been active in U.S. international relations. He was a special ambassador to Bolivia in 1982. He served as a special representative to the kingdom of Oman in 1980 under President Jimmy Carter. In 1981, he was appointed a member of the U.S. commission to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

"Since retiring, Mr. McSweeny has devoted himself to public service, concentrating on a number of local organizations including the Kennedy Center (Co-Chair Community Board), Ford's Theater (Chair), Holton-Arms (President), State Department Endowment Foundation (Co-Chair), and Georgetown University Hospital Cancer Center (Co-Chair). Mr. McSweeny, a combat infantry veteran of the Korean War, has been a Presidential Commissioner for the Korean War Memorial since 1984. In recent years, he has been the recipient of numerous awards, including the Helen Hayes Award, the Lincoln Medal and the District of Columbia Distinguished Citizen Medal." He also chairs the Cultural Crossovers Foundation, with which his wife, Dorothy, shares responsibility as Treasurer." Mr. William F. McSweeny served as the President of Occidental International Corporation. Mr. McSweeny served as an Executive Vice President at Occidental Petroleum Corp. from 1968 to 1969. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953. Mr. McSweeny serves as a Director of Chevy Chase Bank, F.S.B and ASB Capital Management Inc. He serves as an Emeritus Trustee of The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. He is Emeritus Trustee at The Shakespeare Theatre Company. Mr. McSweeny attended the Boston University.

His daughter Terrell is notable, Harvard and Georgetown Law. : Terrell McSweeny: Her socially prominent parents, Bill and Dorothy McSweeny, are active in the arts community, serve on numerous boards, and are involved in Democratic Party politics. Bill, a retired oil man, has served as a trustee of the Kennedy Center and Dorothy was chairman of the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities during the administration of Mayor Anthony Williams.

Terrell McSweeny, who has served as a Commissioner of the Federal Trade Commission since April 2014, has issued a statement announcing her resignation later this month.McSweeny has served as an FTC Commissioner since April 28, 2014, following her appointment by President Barack Obama. Her last day at the Commission will be April 27.

Prior to joining the FTC, Commissioner McSweeny served as Chief Counsel for Competition Policy and Intergovernmental Relations for the U.S. Department of Justice Antitrust Division. She joined the Antitrust Division after serving as Deputy Assistant to the President and Domestic Policy Advisor to the Vice President from January 2009 until February 2012, advising President Obama and Vice President Biden on policy in a variety of areas, including health care, innovation, intellectual property, energy, education, women’s rights, criminal justice and domestic violence.

McSweeny’s government service also includes her work as Senator Joe Biden’s Deputy Chief of Staff and Policy Director in the U.S. Senate, where she managed domestic and economic policy development and legislative initiatives, and as Counsel on the Senate Judiciary Committee, where she worked on issues such as criminal justice, innovation, women's rights, domestic violence, judicial nominations and immigration and civil rights.
