It's a single star…but it is not the Lone Star. The reason being is because Texas was at one time it's own country, and to become a state it was offered the exclusive right that if it succeeded from the rest of the Union, the United States would not go to war with it. California…however; is a state and if it succeeds…guess what? We will be at war.

 

Somebody tell me if I got this wrong, but this is how I understand the Lone Star terminology for Texas.
