The word pharmacy is derived from Old French farmacie "substance, such as a food or in the form of a medicine which has a laxative effect" from Medieval Latin pharmacia from Greek pharmakeia (Greek: φαρμακεία) "a medicine", which itself derives from pharmakon (φάρμακον), meaning"drug, poison, spell"(which is etymologically related to pharmakos).
1849-1950: Early history. Pfizer was founded in 1849 by Charles Pfizer and Charles F. Erhart, two cousins who had immigrated to the United States from Ludwigsburg, Germany, the year before.The business produced chemical compounds, and was headquartered on Bartlett Street in Williamsburgh, New York, where they produced anantiparasiticcalled santonin.
Lot's to dig here: When founded they we're using plant's, herbs, etc… Assume at some point they realized they could not patent those, etc…
Santonin is derived from the flower-heads of Artemisia maritima var. stechmanniana and was widely used in the past as an anthelminthic.
