You're absolutely right!
While a move like that might get someone universally elected, it would also have the effect of IMMEDIATELY collapsing the economy. All lenders would bail. Banks would merge to survive, tighten their belts and never loan again. "Oh but think of all the spendable money injected into the economy!" You do NOT have money. You have DEBT! You will NOT have more money just because you threw out a bill, kids. That was money you never had!!!!! FFS, people!!!!!
