The point I am making is how can he not be acting in self-defense if he was running away from all of his attackers as opposed to hunting them down in advance or standing his ground and shooting the fuck out of anyone that came near him.
He ran away in self defense and as a last resort in each encounter did not shoot his gun to defend himself until he was physically attacked
