story may not be related
but it made me remember a life changing experience of younger days.
went with a friend who bought 6-8 mice to breed for his snakes
got to his place and he dumped them all in a big glass aquarium. of course they all scattered around and jumped up against the sides looking for the exit.
except one.
after just a minute he just sat still and stared at a corner without moving while all the others ran to & fro. this continued as he set up the water & food. I even prodded the still mouse and he would just go to another corner to stare outside.
I got ready to go and asked my friend for the odd mouse. I stopped at a field on the way home and let him go. He might die there but at least it would know it was free.
