Busy shops, fewer workers: Portland grapples with post-pandemic reality

A push of late fall warmth had given downtown restaurants and businesses a boost following a dreadful summer. One year later, the story has changed entirely - the economy is booming, but businesses can't find workers and supply chain shortages are making it difficult for retailers to keep their shelves filled. โ€œMr. Binger pulled out a cell phone and showed me a video and also a photo โ€“ which was actually one photo that I brought today โ€“ and asked me if I knew who a gentleman was in that photo, and I said I did not. โ€ฆ He said, โ€˜This is Joshua Ziminski.โ€™ Mr. Binger also has a case with him, and I am subpoenaed for that case also,โ€ he continued. โ€œHe says, โ€˜Well, thatโ€™s who that is.โ€™ He put the phone down. He picked the phone back up and says, โ€˜Who is this?โ€™ And I confusingly said, like, Joshua Ziminski, and he said, โ€˜Would you like to add that to your statement?โ€™ and I just felt I didnโ€™t want to change my statement.โ€
