Space Force satellite jammers shut down enemy communications, temporarily

WASHINGTON — U.S. military officials and analysts have warned that China and Russia are building an arsenal of weapons designed to interfere with space-based capabilities of the United States.

The United States meanwhile is building its own capabilities to counter enemies’ space assets. Most of those systems are classified but the Space Force has made public its plans to deploy advanced electronic jammers to disrupt enemies’ satellite communications signals.

Ed Zoiss, president of L3Harris Space and Airborne Systems, said the CSS allows the military to “dominate the electromagnetic spectrum.”

“Denying our enemies the ability to use their space assets protects U.S. warfighter operations,” Zoiss said Nov. 15 in a news release about the company’s recent contract

Sen. Patrick Leahy announces he will not seek reelection

Sen. Patrick Leahy, 81, fifth-longest-serving senator in history and president pro tempore of the Senate, announces in Vermont he's retiring from the seat he's held for 46 years. "It's time to put down the gavel. It's time to pass the torch to the next Vermonter."

Prior to Leahy's announcement, no Republican had launched a 2022 bid for the Senate in the blue state of Vermont, which now-President Biden carried by 35 points last November and Leahy won reelection in 2016 by 28 points.

Leahy's news will now also open the door for Vermont Democrats who may seek to succeed him. Among the potential contenders are Rep. Peter Welch, Vermont Senate President pro tem Becca Balint, state Sen. Kesha Ram Hinsdale, and Lt. Gov. Molly Gray.

With Leahy's announcement, there are only two senators up for reelection in 2022 who have yet to say whether they'll seek another term. They are Republican Sens. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin and John Thune of South Dakota.

  • Merseyside Police said four people have been arrested under the Terrorism Act after a car exploded outside the Women’s Hospital in Liverpool, UK, on Sunday.

  • The motivation for the attack is “yet to be understood”, police said

  • A taxi carrying one passenger exploded outside the hospital just minutes before 11:00 am GMT on Remembrance Sunday

  • The passenger died at the scene, while the taxi driver, named locally as David Perry, has been discharged from hospital, Sky News reports. His wife Rachel said "there are a lot of rumors flying around"

  • Armed police have carried out raids across the city, while specialist officers and police negotiators remain on the scene outside a house in the city

  • Home Secretary Priti Patel announced that the terror threat level has been increased to "severe"

Thoughts

Possible false flag.

Bombing a women's hospital with no motivation?

Immediate increase in fear levels.

Will probably try to paint this as some unhinged anti-vaxx mandater.

Just anon's opinion. Need more information before making judgement.

An oldie, but interesting for students of recent history…

CIA, FBI developing intelligence supercomputer (article from 2002)

After months of criticism that they do not work well together, the CIA and FBI have begun jointly developing a new supercomputer system designed to improve their ability to both cull and share information, White House and other U.S. officials told Global Security Newswire yesterday. Under a directive issued by President Bush, and overseen by Office of Homeland Security officials, CIA and FBI officials are "working like crazy" to create a comprehensive database that could used by various federal and, in some cases, state agencies, officials said.

"They're trying to push more data and resources to the agencies and people in the field that otherwise wouldn't have them," a U.S. official said, referring to a data-mining system that could be used by the 32 federal agencies that collect classified information.

"There are several communitywide data-mining architectures that are being looked at to allow information sharing among the intelligence and law enforcement communities," the official continued. "A lot of it is tied to the homeland security initiatives."

The federal government is spending $155 million this year for "information and intelligence sharing," with $722 million more requested in next year's White House budget proposal, according to Homeland Security Office spokesman Gordon Johndroe.

A Connecticut judge ruled Alex Jones was guilty by default, granting a sweeping victory for the parents suing the far-right broadcaster for defamation over the Sandy Hook shooting.

The judge in Connecticut ruled on Monday that because Mr. Jones refused to turn over documents ordered by the courts, including financial records, he was guilty by default. The ruling combines with three previous rulings in Texas to grant the families of 10 Sandy Hook shooting victims four victories in four defamation lawsuits against Mr. Jones.

Mr. Jones for years spread bogus theories that the shooting that killed 20 first graders and six educators was a government-led plot to confiscate Americans’ firearms and that the victims’ families were “actors” in the scheme.

The Sandy Hook families maintain that Mr. Jones profited from spreading lies about their relatives’ murders. Mr. Jones has disputed that, while for years failing to produce sufficient records to bolster his claims.

Juries in both states will next decide how much Mr. Jones should pay the families in damages, atop court costs. Those trials are scheduled for next year in both states.

I don't think I've ever heard the term "guilty by default" used before.
