Typically a jury will do an informal vote for each charge before they really do anything else just to see where they stand. Then they will discuss the charge and deliberate until they either reach an agreement on the charge or they can't. If they have a question they can ask the judge for clarification. When they have the verdict they will summon the bailiff and he will contact the judge.
