It is. I remember reading in the Laura ingalls books the dr gave her a powder to swallow for ‘fever and ague’ (now known as malaria). It was not know at the time to be caused by mosquitoes.. they thought the cause was watermelons from the swamp, or the swamp air. Anyway, the powder was poured out of a little paper packet and was very bitter.
