A famous hunting shot..
Was there anything suspicious about King Juan Carlos shooting his Brother?
The incident occured in Portugal, over 60 years ago. There was never an official (police) investigation and I am not aware of any first-hand account of what happened.
The Royal House issued a statement announcing the death of Prince Alfonso, which was limited to a brief description of the event without addaressing the issue of guilt.
In the absence of any official investigation or independent report, we are left with different unsupported popular versions, most of which attribute the shooting to then-prince JC.
Other versions say the gun may have been in the hands of a sister, still others say it was in the hands of prince Alfonso himself, who was knocked from behind when a door opened, setting off the pistol, which was thought to be unloaded.
All version coincide in that it was an unintended accident and a n outright tragedy, as it would be or any family (royal or otherwise).
