Exactly why I didn't waste time and money in the 90s going for a PhD. I hung around them enough as an undergrad to see how phony and miserable and conceited and self-absorbed most of them were. I had a dissertation ready to write, but instinct told me not to go into the ivory towers. How right I was. In retrospect, a lot of my professors were some of the dumbest people I ever met.
