Lukoil Discovers Oil Field in Mexico With Reserves of Up to 250Mln Barrels

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Russian oil major Lukoil said on Tuesday it had discovered an oil field in Block 12 offshore Mexico with reserves of up to 250 million barrels of oil.

"​LUKOIL announces discovery of an oil field within the Yoti West structure at Block 12 offshore Mexico. The field was discovered after drilling the first exploration well. According to preliminary estimates, the initial oil in place reaches 250 million barrels," the company said.

"The Yoti West-1 EXP well was drilled 60 km offshore from the Valaris 8505 semi-submersible platform. The well penetrated a sand reservoir in Upper Miocene sediments with high permeability and effective oil-saturated thickness of about 25 meters. An assessment plan for the Yoti West field is planned to be developed based ​on drilling results," it added.

Jefferson's Statue Removed in NY After Workers Complain it Fails to Represent 'Contemporary Values'

Members of the City Council were divided about the removal of the statue, with some claiming that the move was "sidelining history".

A statue of America's third president, Thomas Jefferson, was removed from City Hall in New York on Monday after workers had complained that the slave-owning president made them uncomfortable.

The monument was packed into a wooden crate before it was taken down and relocated in the lobby of the New York Historical Society.

The request to remove Jefferson's statue originally came from the Commission on Racial Justice and Reconciliation, headed by outgoing Mayor Bill de Blasio's wife Chirlane McCray, after black employees had complained about the statue of a slave owner.

After his wife's initiative, De Blasio wrote a letter to City Hall, which said:

"The statue of Thomas Jefferson in the City Council Chambers is inappropriate and serves as a constant reminder of the injustices that have plagued communities of color since the inception of our country … Jefferson is America's most noted slave holder … and a scholar who maintained that blacks were inferior to whites."

A California county on Monday imposed an indoor mask mandate that includes ‘private homes’ – just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Santa Cruz County announced a new mask mandate is now in effect for all indoor settings, including private settlings like a home.

How will this be enforced? Will the Gestapo break down doors with battering rams?

“An indoor mask mandate is now in effect in Santa Cruz County and it covers private settings like a home. If you are getting together with others who don’t live in the same household the county says you should mask up regardless of vaccination status. Businesses are also required to follow the guidelines. You can take off your mask when eating or drinking,” – KGO reported.
